If they socialize, the rumors will stop?

Desperate Housewives

Actor Josh Henderson, who played the not-so-loveable Austin McCann on “Desperate Housewives” was recently interviewed about the supposed tensions between the female co-stars. His take on it? The rumors about fights and tension and catfights are because the women don’t tend to hang out with one another outside the set or work-related outings. It’s not a bad theory. Perhaps if people saw Marcia Cross going shopping with Teri Hatcher or Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman having a cup of coffee at a cafe and deep in conversation, then maybe people wouldn’t speculate so much about how much they all hate each other.

“I get asked about the tensions a lot. I’ve really never seen any problems or trauma. You know, the girls all have their own lives. They have boyfriends or families, so I suppose they don’t hang out much as friends. But they’re always going to parties and work-related nights out with the rest of the cast and they get on fine.”

Perhaps that will put an end to that? Huh, I doubt it.

Low ratings for latest “Desperate Housewives” episode

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

The HousewivesI don’t think this is horrible news, but it’s not good news either. “Desperate Housewives” garnered their lowest ratings ever in the show’s three year run on Sunday, causing CBS to win the time-slot. To be fair, Sunday was Easter and a lot of people probably haven’t had their minds on television. And if they did, they were watching the return of HBO’s “The Sopranos” (plus, it was an HBO free-preview weekend and I can attest to the fact that little else was watched in our home all weekend long) or catching the completely awesome “Planet Earth” miniseries on Discovery. However, these poor ratings are very disappointing, considering this is the first new “Desperate Housewives” episode to air in a little over a month. Everyone would expect that the viewers would be tuning in en-masse to catch the first new episode. The good news (if there is any) is that “Housewives” was still the highest rated show for it’s time-slot and the “sweet” age demographic (18-49). I just hope the ABC execs don’t look too deeply into this. “Desperate Housewives” is still a top-rated show and guaranteed viewers for the network.

“Desperate Housewives” - Dress Big recap

Dress Big episode

First of all, I want to apologize for the lack of postage on Friday. I woke up to zero internet and no amount of fiddling with modems, routers, and network settings would fix it. I had to spend 24+ hours without access to internet, blogs, email, you name it. And it was pretty much torture. Thankfully, a new DSL modem has been acquired and I’m back in business.

Now, a couple of things about tonights FABULOUS new episode:

  • Is anyone else getting tired of the “Gee, Susan is so cute but what a klutz” shtick? Cuz I am. Very tired. Find a new angle. It’s not THAT cute.
  • Since when have Edie and Gaby been such good friends? Well, I guess not NOW, now that Edie is lusting after Carlos and all, but sheesh! I just don’t buy them shopping together or comparing purchases or giggling over how long its been since they “got some”. Whatever.
  • I don’t dig Gaby’s new beau, Victor. I don’t know, maybe I’m just rigid and only want her with Carlos (duh!), but he just doesn’t seem like that great of a fit for her. I don’t understand why he likes her so much anyway because Gaby is a pretty immature and selfish person. Though he did win points for not letting her bully him into letting her borrow his ex-wifes clothes.
  • Why does Lynette have to butt in all the time? Is there a single Housewife on the block who isn’t completely 100% selfish? It would just KILL her to let Tom be the boss for a change, right? Come on, I hate orange too, but let it go. It’s not that bad.
  • Kinda love Victor’s ex demanding the dress back right away. Gaby so deserved that. I have to admit, I kinda hate her a lot of the time. Least favorite “Housewife” ever.
  • When’s Bree coming back? I’m missing myself some Bree. I’m enjoying Edie’s enhanced screen-time, but it’s just not the same without Bree.
  • And wow, I found I was drawn in by Edie’s striptease. Not that way, perverts! It was the first time we really saw her vulnerable. While the pairing with Carlos is no surprise to me, I’ll be interested to see how that story shapes up. I doubt Gaby will be too happy about it, either way.
  • Oh, and I think “Travers” is a horrible name for a child. Poor kid.
  • Am glad that Lynette finally let it go and wore the stupid orange shirt. Just disappointed that it took Tom rupturing a disk to make her to do it.

Believe it or not, I do enjoy the show. I don’t want it to seem like I’m bagging on it, but these are some things that kinda bugged me about the new episode. And if we can’t bitch about the shows we love, what can we do?

The “Housewives” this week

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

It’s a slow news day in “Desperate Housewives” land. We’re all gearing up and getting excited for the NEW episode on Sunday. And, can I say, it’s about time? Can I get an “Amen!”? Anyhow, here are some great pictures of some of our favorite “Housewives” from this week. I thought I’d share at least that with you all, since you’ve all been so good and patient in waiting for a new episode.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria at the 007 Laureus World Sports Awards on April 2nd. Check out that dress! Wowzers!

Teri Hatcher

Teri Hatcher at the 6th Annual Comedy For A Cure Hosted by Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance on April 1st. Lovin’ those shoes!

The other ‘Wives haven’t been out much in the last week or so, unfortunately. I’m still waiting for a good look at Marcia’s new twins! Each time I’ve seen images of her out and about lately she looks fantastic.

Teri Hatcher - October 2006

Check out this picture of Teri Hatcher, circa October of 2006 at the 2006 World Women’s Awards, on the red carpet with Claudia Schiffer. Pretty emaciated, right? We’ve all heard the tabloid stories about super-skinny celebrities and Teri Hatcher has often been included in with that group. Many speculations have been made regarding eating disorders and the like. But mostly everyone has just hoped the girl would go find a cheeseburger somewhere and make herself happy again. And? It looks like she has.

Teri Hatcher - April 2007

Just look how happy she looks with her beau, Stephen Kay, at the recent 6th Annual Comedy for a Cure event. And she looks healthy too. The girl looks downright beautiful. So good for her.

Teri Hatcher

Also, FWIW, I first saw these pics and heard about her new healthier look on Mamapop, and if you aren’t reading that site then you’re totally missing out.

Watch full screen episodes of “Desperate Housewives” online

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

VideoIt’s always nice to see the conventional media catch up with the rest of the world. ABC has now added full screen streaming video of it’s hit TV shows to their website. What does this mean to you and me? It means if you miss an episode of “Desperate Housewives” or you’d like to see last week’s show again (this time, without the kids yelling in your ear or your mother calling during the second half hour), all you need to is point your browsers to the ABC video website and you’ll be all set. Plus, I hear this is about as close to HDTV as you can get (without an HDTV, that is). So theoretically, you can hook up any LCD display to your computer or laptop and, activating the new full screen mode feature, watch the episode to your heart’s content. So what’s the difference from how, say, NBC shows their full screen shows? The ABC site uses something called “Move Networks” instead of regular flash video (think YouTube). I’m not going to bore you with the technical details, but the important thing is this means you get a near-crystal clear image. Not bad for streaming movies, right? So if you’ve missed an episode of your favorite ABC show recently (including your most favorite, “Desperate Housewives” of course), head over and check it out.

Check out Felicity’s new movie, “Georgia Rule”

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Did you know Felicity is in a new movie with Jane Fonda and Lindsay Lohan? Yeah, neither did I! But I saw this trailer for the film, “Georgia Rule” online and it looks really good! Here’s a short synopsis, via ifilm:

With her latest car crash, rebellious teenager Rachel has broken the final rule in mom Lily’s San Francisco home. Lily hauls her daughter to the one place she swore she’d never return…her own mother’s Idaho farm. Matriarch Georgia lives her life by a number of unbreakable rules, demanding anyone who shares her home do the same. Now saddled with raising the young woman, it will require each patient breath she takes to understand Rachel’s fury. But as Rachel succumbs to her summer of misery and shakes up the tiny Mormon town, Georgia notices something is changing within her granddaughter. Given structure and responsibilities, Rachel is letting her guard down and learning compassion…especially for her mother. Her journey will lead all three women to revelations of buried family secrets and an understanding that–regardless what happens–the ties that bind can never be broken.

It’s nice to see Jane Fonda again, and it looks like a fun role for her her. And I thought Felicity’s hair looked awesome in the trailer. And, dare I say it, Lindsay doesn’t look half bad. Plus, it’s always nice to see Felicity branch out from “Desperate Housewives” and do something different. It generally seems to turn out well for her and I hope that will continue to be true. If you want to check out the trailer, you’ll find it below.
