“Desperate” weekly wrapup

Friday, June 29th, 2007

To be honest, there hasn’t be a lot of “Desperate Housewives” news this week.  Jesse Metcalfe has been in the headlines, as you’ve seen by Wednesday’s post.  Apparently, he’s also going to be getting back together with ex-girlfriend Nadine Coyle, but don’t quote me on that as I haven’t thoroughly investigated that source.  James Denton was challenged to a little bit of baseball by an LA Times columnist with the proceeds from this bet going to charity so it’s hard to know who to root for.  My money is on James.  Everything else has been about Eva and Tony’s wedding and I’m just about sick to death of hearing about it, I don’t know about you.  Thank goodness that in a little over one week’s time, it will be old news and we can MOVE ON.  Yes, yes, I’m sure this wedding will be the bee’s knees and just the most awesome thing to ever hit the planet.  But I can only read so many news stories about the consistency of their wedding cake or what the couple registered for at Tiffany’s or whatever else have you.  I’m looking forward to a weekend off of the goofy details.  Bitter much?  Enjoy your weekend, all!

Is Jesse back to boozing?

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

Jesse MetcalfIs he or isn’t he?  Rumors are flying that former party-boy Jesse Metcalfe is back to drinking after his much-publicized stint in rehab this spring.  But Jesse says that’s all it is; rumors.  Apparently, a recent issue of tabloid magazing In Touch Weekly claimed that Jesse was recently drunk at a John Mayer concert, a rumor which Jesse is furiously denying.  He’s so furious, in fact, that his lawyer Marty Singer has sent a scathing letter to In Touch Weekly and it’s parent company demanding a retraction and apology, or face serious financial liability.  Here’s a boy who takes his sobriety very, very seriously, apparently!

Joan Collins “desperate” to be on “Housewives”

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Joan CollinsShe’s tried before and failed, but she’s willing to try again.  Even if it means undergoing plastic surgery to get there. She has tried to be on “Desperate Housewives” before, as Susan’s mother, but lost the role to Lesley Ann Warren.  Joan thinks that if it’s her looks that are the problem, she’d happily go under the knife to become beautiful once more.  Surely I can’t be the only who thinks that this all sounds a touch too “desperate”?  As she says, “‘Desperate Housewives’ is one of the best things ever to hit television. I’d jump at a television series.”  You have to admit, the show sounds exactly like something that would be up her alley.  Surely they can find SOME sort of part for her, I’d think.

Uh oh, I’ve been tagged!

Thursday, June 21st, 2007

This may not be a personal blog, but I’m not immune to the charms of the blog meme.  Recently, Victoria from About San Diego tagged me to do a “7 Things” style meme and far be it from me to resist.   I’ll see if I can tie it back around to my topic, but don’t count on it. ;)

Seven Unusual Facts About Me:

  1. I went to an all-girls Catholic high school and get this: I actually liked it.  It was a very laid back atmosphere but still expected academic excellence and good behavior and that just really jived with my personality.  Plus, I made some really good friends while I was there.
  2. I am the last of five children.  Not just last, but way last.  I’m 8 years behind my older sister and 14 years behind my oldest sister.  I think it’s easy to say that I wasn’t exactly planned by my parents.  I’m sure they’re glad they had me now though.  I hope.
  3. For the longest time I was a die-hard cat person.  I loved having cats as pets and barely could tolerate dogs.  That is, until we got our rat terrier “Beetoe”.  She decided I was her person and glommed right on to me.  Then we had some cats that were nothing but a pain in the arse.  Now?  I find I’ve flip-flopped.  I prefer dogs to cats.  Of course, we have to be talking about well-behaved dogs.  Still, I do appreciate a good, sweet cat from time to time.
  4. When I was growing up I used to love reading these young adult romances from a series called “Sunfire”.  They each featured a different teenaged girl at some tumultuous time in history.  The titles of the books were the girl’s name such as “Amanda” or “Jessica” or “Merrie”.  I loved those books and devoured them from the library.  I wish I had purchased more of them because they aren’t around any more but I still have a few tucked into my bookshelf.
  5. All through high school and through most of college I always insisted that I didn’t want to have children when I was older and married.  I never enjoyed babysitting and didn’t feel I would enjoy having my own kids.  I changed my mind when, get this, I watched the film “Nine Months” while I was in college.  Seriously.  The scene where Hugh Grant had missed his girlfriend’s ultrasound and she left him and he was sitting there watching the videotape of the ultrasound is what did it.  Where he saw the heart beating and started to tear up?  Yeah.  I was totally suckered in.  I’m still “baby hungry”.
  6. I’m terribly shy and have a very difficult time approaching people.  I’m better than I was when I was younger, however, I still cannot call people on the telephone.  I have no problem (well, maybe I should say less of a problem) if they call me but will do whatever I can to get out of having to call anyone.  That goes for family other than my parents as well.  Email, I can handle.  Txt messages?  Fine.  Phone calls?  FORGET IT.
  7. I subscribe to this rather silly law of averages.  For instance: If there are three women other than myself who are pregnant and they all find out before I do that they’re having girls, I believe I will have a boy.  OR if two find out they’re having girls and one finds out she’s having a boy, I’m still having a boy.  So far, that has proven itself to be true.  I believe that if I were to get pregnant again, I might very well have a girl because some close friends of mine have had many boys and only one girl so maybe the next baby born among the three of us will be a girl.  Time will tell, right?

Okay, that’s all I’ve got for you all today.  Maybe tomorrow I’ll be back some actual, bonafide news!

Marcia’s twins get baptized

Tuesday, June 19th, 2007

Marcia’s twins get baptizedDon’t these two look so happy that you know their cheeks have to be hurting from the smiling? This last weekend, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Santa Barbara, California, Eden and Savannah Mahoney were baptized in front of friends and family. The girls, as you can see, were dressed in identical white gowns. Can you believe they’re four months old already?

And in case you were thinking that Tom might be one of those dads that shows up for baptisms but is absent the rest of the time, Marcia has put that notion to rest: “He’s there every minute, and he’s as madly in love with them as I am. I don’t know what I would do if I had one of those husband who was just not interested.”  I think that’s just adorable.  These two are obviously just over the moon about their girls and it’s just wonderful to watch them enjoy them so much.  Soak up every minute, you two, it’s over in a flash!

Nicollette has still got it

Monday, June 18th, 2007

Nicollette SheridanAt 43 years old, Nicollette Sheridan is still turning heads in Hollywood and everywhere else. If you want to know why, just look at these pictures! (just click to enlarge the photo to the left here) They were taken as she was vacationing with fiance Michael Bolton on board a luxury yacht off the Mediterranean island of Corsica. If I could even have half the body NOW that she has at 43 I’d consider myself lucky. You want to hate her, but you can’t because she’s just such a reasonable gal! Anyone who would blast Brittany Spears, of course, is aces in my book!

British newspaper The Daily Mail, recently published these photos along with an article about the star that you might want to go take a look at.  If you’d like to see more of these pictures, then join me after the jump.  Just beware, these photos might cause serious envy!

“Desperate Housewives” one of the world’s most popular shows

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Desperate Housewives

This should surprise absolutely no one.  Apparently, the ratings firm Eurodata TV Worldwide recently ranked three shows as the world’s most popular.  They are “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”, “Desperate Housewives” and (wait for it) “The Bold and the Beautiful”. The figures were “based on ratings in 48 countries with a potential 2.5 billion viewers”.  WOW.  I guess those are some popular television shows then.  I knew “Desperate Housewives” had some worldwide appeal but I guess I didn’t realize how much.  Congrats, guys!

“Desperate Housewives” on Forbes 100 list

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Desperate HousewivesYou’ve heard of the Forbes 500 list, right?  Where the mega-magazine lists out the 500 top earners and shakers out there.  Well have you heard of the Forbes Celebrity 100 list?  This list measures, you guessed it, the top 100 Celebrity earners but also the top 100 “buzz makers”.  Well guess whose favorite Housewives are on the list?  Our gals of Wisteria Lane rank in at a respectable 34 on the list.  They share real estate with such celebrities as the cast of “Grey’s Anatomy”, Hayden Panetierre (from “Heroes”)  and Jeff Foxworthy.  If you’d like to see the rest of the list, check here and see where your favorite celebrities rank.   I’m guessing you might be surprised who ranks at #1 and who instead ranks at #3.

James Denton wants to leave Hollywood

Wednesday, June 13th, 2007

James DentonNever fear, “Desperate Housewives” fans, he won’t be leaving Hollywood just yet.  But once his stint is up on the hit ABC show, James Denton plans to leave Hollywood behind and ease back into a life of anonymity once more.  There’s a great interview posted over on Australia’s Herald Sun website with the 45 year old actor where he talks at great length about Hollywood, the glamorous life and his plans for the future.  Those plans, apparently, don’t include hanging around film premieres and the Starbucks set.  Denton would like to move to Montana and become a teacher.

“I have a place in Montana up in the mountains and that’s where we really want to raise the kids. So if I can get two or three more years out of Housewives, they’ll never see me again.”

So there you have it.  Better get your fill of James Denton while you can.  Sounds as if he doesn’t plan on sticking around any longer than he has to!  Go read the rest of the interview, it’s pretty interesting.

Felicity scares Jessica Alba

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

Felicity HuffmanBefore you laugh, it’s totally true.  Apparently, back when Felicity Huffman and her husband actor William H. Macy put on an acting workshop, Jessica was one of their students.  The couple taught a master acting class at the Atlantic Theater Company, as well they should because they are both amazingly gifted in their work.  Jessica Alba took the course when she was a mere 16 years old and was left in tears when Felicity tore apart her technique.  So what did Felicity do or say to the pint-sized beauty to reduce her to shambles?

“Felicity was very hard on me. She’s a tough cookie, that one.  I just remember her making me cry because I didn’t prepare a scene right, or I didn’t talk loud enough.”

So basically, she was doing her job as an acting instructor and trying to teach her how to hone her craft.  Sounds as if someone was a little on the sensitive side going in, don’t you think?  If anything, I think Jessica should thank Felicity for helping her toughen her skin and perfect her talent.  But what do I know?

Dougray Scott ties the knot

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Dougray ScottHe played “Desperate Housewives” Ian, Susan’s erstwhile fiance and a fellow that proved to be rather unlucky in love.  But in real life, Dougray Scott is having quite a lucky time in love indeed!  The Brit wed his longtime girlfriend, actress Claire Forlani, in a private civil ceremony in Italy on Friday.  The two met a year and a half ago through a mutual friend and it has been love ever since. The ceremony sounds like it was a lovely one, with the bride wearing “a custom-made strapless gown by designer Junko Yoshioka, a crystal hair pin by Swarovski and Jimmy Choo heels”.  Sounds like every girl’s dream, doesn’t it?  Best wishes to the happy couple!

Looking Back: Seasons 3’s “Bang” episode

Friday, June 8th, 2007

Season 3 ended up being so much better than that disaster that was season 2. I didn’t really realize HOW much better until I saw the seventh episode of the season, titled “Bang.” That was the episode that got people’s attention, that opened some eyes and made me stop and realize “Hey, this is a pretty good show.” It showed us just what a great actress Felicity Huffman really is as well. She knocked my socks off during that episode. If you’ve seen it, then you probably agree with me. If you haven’t seen it, take a look at the clip below that highlights some of the biggest moments from that episode. If you don’t have goosebumps on your arms by the time you’re done watching it, then I’ll eat my hat.*

*actually, no I won’t, because I don’t think I even own a hat. But just trust me, okay?

Behind the Scenes with Nicolette

Thursday, June 7th, 2007

Nicolette SheridanAussie television show “Confidential TV” recently nabbed a quick and exclusive interview with Nicolette Sheridan on the set of a commercial shoot for local lingerie company Hestia.  And while I don’t think much was discussed about whether or not Edie is truly dead on “Desperate Housewives” (dangit), they did talk about her domestic bliss with fiance Michael Bolton and her opinion of young Hollywood starlets going “commando”.  Apparently the blond bombshell is quite the domestic goddess as well and is looking to purchase a horse property so she can get back to her childhood love of riding.  Also, she and Bolton are looking to get married at this time next year so I’m guessing the two have finally (finally!) set a date.

Nicolette had some harsh words for young celebrities like Brittany Spears and Paris Hilton who have been “caught” running around town without underwear on.  According to her, there’s no excuse for it. “They make fabulous underwear that is seamless, so there’s no need for you to go, as they say, commando.”  She adds that they deserve to get caught by the paparazzi if you’re going to running around town without underwear and not crossing your legs as you get out of a car.  I think I can give that statement a big, “AMEN!”

Teri Hatcher wins a Glamour award

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Teri HatcherLast night was the 4th Annual Glamour Women of the Year awards.  I bet you didn’t know that. I bet you also didn’t know that Teri Hatcher won an award there.  Oh yes!  But not for her portrayal of Susan Meyer on “Desperate Housewives”.  She got the Writer of the Year award for her book, “Burnt Toast”.  The British awards featured mostly British recipients, which made Teri winning the award all the more significant.  I bet I can guess who will get Writer of the Year at next year’s awards, however.  Can anyone say J.K. Rowling?  Teri’s just lucky that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” comes out this year instead of last year.

All joking aside, congratulations to her.  I’ve heard some good things about her book (which I will admit I haven’t had a chance to read) and it’s got to be awesome to be recognized for her talent and hard work.  Way to go, Teri!

Eva Longora: Quick Change Artist

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

When I heard that Eva Longoria was hosting the Alma Awards, I will admit the first thing I thought was, “I wonder what she’ll wear?”  I needn’t have worried.  I should have realized she wouldn’t be wearing just one thing but MANY MANY things.  The Awards air tonight (check your local listings!) but were filmed over the weekend where Eva dazzled us with dance and with her many beautiful dresses.  Which is your favorite?
