Desperate Housewives

Never say that “Desperate Housewives” and producer Marc Cherry aren’t progressive thinkers!  I’ve just heard news that we will see the first gay couple (non-teenaged, of course, for those who remember) on the show this fall.  According to Cherry, “We’re going to have the first male desperate housewives.  They will move into the old Applewhite house and one of the gay men will just have a fractious, hateful relationship with Teri Hatcher. We just started writing the episodes so I probably won’t start casting for another few weeks.”  Apparently the idea for this storyline is somewhat autobiographical from Cherry’s own experiences in the suburbs so I will definitely be interested to see where they go with all this.  This brings to mind a question though:  Which one of the new couple will be the desperate housewife?  Or will they both be?  Neither?  Inquiring minds want to know!

All wedding-talk aside, you do remember that Eva Longoria is the new face of Bebe Sport, right? Shots from her recent photoshoot for the clothing company have been released and they are definitely fabulous. Take a look and tell me what you think. The storyline of Gabby on “Desperate Housewives” being a former model doesn’t seem quite so far fetched at the moment, does it?

Jesse Metcalfe launched his music career at the grand-opening bash of Cain at the Cove in the Bahamas. He performed in front of many celebrities (such as Jamie King and Chloe Sevigny) and big wigs and reports are he actually did a pretty good job. He played an acoustic guitar and played songs from his new album, “Darklight”. When asked about his music, he says:

“I think a lot of people will be surprised to learn that I actually have talent. I love playing to an audience. It’s really gratifying.”

Reports are he stayed sober during the entire event (even though it was sponsored by a well-known alcohol company) and he insists that he doesn’t want to do anything to mess up his road to music stardom.  I wish him the best of luck.  I haven’t heard any of his songs yet, but I trust in the reports that say he was pretty good.  Maybe music is the best path for him right now.

Desperate Blog recently posted some pictures of Eva and Tony’s honeymoon and I just have to say, “Who died?” The pictures look like they were taken as the couple was traveling about the island on a golf cart-esque vehicle and playing tennis.  And they just look so… happy.  Don’t they?  If you’d like to take a peek at the rest, head on over to Desperate Blog and have a peek.  But just so you’re clear, this was a honeymoon, not a funeral.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced and there was a notable exception to the list:  “Desperate Housewives” was left off the list for Best Comedy for what might be the first time since the show first aired in 2004.  The only major award “Desperate Housewives” was nominated for, in fact, was for Felicity Huffman (which, all things said, BIG congrats for her because she definitely deserves it).  

Also left off the list for the most part is the critical and audience fave “Friday Night Lights”.  The Emmy’s had better watch it or they will find themselves becoming rapidly irrelevant in the eyes of the viewers.  And we all know, when it comes down to it, the viewers are ones who really run the show in Hollywood.  Just sayin’.

Eva is back at home in the States and back at work on “Desperate Housewives”. She and newly-minted husband Tony Parker took a week-long honeymoon, alone, on the Turks and Caicos island in the Caribbean. But, as of Monday, Longoria was back on the set of “Desperate Housewives”. Oh, and in case you were wondering, don’t expect to see her name changed in the credits. At least, not yet.

“It will say Longoria for a while, but I love the tradition of taking the name Parker,” the actress told OK! “Legally everything is changed.”

I kind of like the notion of taking the husband’s name myself, so I can understand that. At any rate, glad to hear that Eva is back at work and that “Desperate Housewives” is already working on some smoking storylines for our fourth season.

In a delightful break from wedding news and gossip, I’ve got this nugget to report: James Denton has been named as the grand marshal for the Allstate 400 NASCAR race on July 29 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. What does this honor mean and include? He will be participating in a variety of pre-race activities and will be the one waving the green flag, signifying the start of the race. And, I’m just guessing here, he’ll get some pretty good seats for the race. So why Denton?

“As a well-known TV personality on a very popular show and an avid sports enthusiast, James is an ideal ambassador for this monumental race. We are proud to make him an integral part of the festivities,” Joe Tripodi, Allstate’s chief marketing officer, said.

It is a big honor, which James has recognized and is very excited about. He seems like a great choice to kick off the premiere NASCAR race. Have fun, James!

I think I had reported on this before, but it’s “official”.  Marc Cherry, creator of “Desperate Housewives”, gave a toast to the happy couple at their wedding reception on Saturday and said, “No kids!”  This came as no surprise to the couple as Eva had been asked before by Marc to hold off on having any children for at least a year.  Why?  Where, it’s not in the grand storyline plan, after all.  They’re on a pretty tight “budget” here, with a finite number of seasons remaining to wrap up storylines and cover news ones.  A pregnancy just doesn’t fit in with the plan.  But before you feel bad for Eva and Tony, they’re completely fine with this agreement.  Apparently, they’d like to take a little time before starting a family anyhow.  Well, that’s handy!

OK! Magazine doesn’t hit newsstands until tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a little peak at the exclusive wedding pictures from Eva Longoria’s wedding today.  You can only get the barest idea of what her wedding dress looks like, but what I can see of it looks gorgeous.  Of course, did I expect any different?  The amount of hubub over these nuptials has surprised me to no end.  Pardon me for saying, but I didn’t think either of them were that big of a deal until this whole wedding thing.  Shows how naive I am, huh?

Eva was remarkably calm about the entire affair and in OK! Magazine’s interview, said,”Every girl dreams of having a beautiful, romantic wedding,” says Longoria. “It was amazing to see it unfold after months of planning. We really wanted to create an experience for our guests. It was about them having fun.” All reports indicate that they pulled off their wishes in perfect fashion.  Again, congrats to the new couple.  I’m glad to hear their big day was such a big success.

So should Teri have split off from the other guests to come around the front of the church and wave and greet the fans and photographers?  A lot of people are saying she shouldn’t have this morning.  But it wasn’t just about getting out in front of the cameras, apparently her dress which was designed by Badgley Mischka and looked an awful lot like the bridesmaids dresses that Eva had had designed.  Apparently, Teri is the odd one out on the set as well. The other women often socialize together between scenes and at each others’ homes while Teri keeps to herself and often is the source of awkwardness between the women on the set.  So, do I buy this?  Maybe, maybe not.  I don’t know if Eva or anyone else directly involved in the wedding actually cared whether or not Teri got her picture taken or what her dress looked like.  But it was a little on the tasteless side, though surely not newsworthy (she says as she writes an entire blog post about it).  

No, there isn’t any photos of Eva in her wedding dress yet.  Not that I can find, that is.  The pair were married twice this last weekend.  First, there was the civil ceremony at a town hall in Paris on Friday.  Then, we had the giant, star-studded affair that took place on Saturday.  The festivities were incredibly locked down with the paparazzi and fans kept at a great distance from the church and the loving couple themselves.  What few pictures I have seen are of the wedding guests and perhaps one or two of Eva and Tony’s limo.  I can barely contain my excitement, I don’t know about you.

All reports are that the wedding went off as planned and that it was a stunningly lavish affair.  OK! magazine has exclusive rights to the photos of the couple and the festivities and we should be getting a look at those sometime later this week.  And maybe we’ll get some details as well.  I can’t blame them for putting their most special day under lock and key; I’d probably be tempted to do the same.  But shoot, throw us a bone!  Let us at least see a picture of her in her dress!  At any rate, best wishes to the happy couple, wherever they are!

Word is (according to Variety) that “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry wants to do a musical episode of “Desperate Housewives”.  This is a ploy that “Scrubs” has pulled off multiple times and that we saw (and loved) on the late, great “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.  Depending on how it’s done, I think this could be a great gimmick.  But it is just that, a gimmick.  And it can’t take itself too seriously.  That’s a cardinal rule right there.  It’s not set in stone just yet, but the news is that Teri Hatcher is game and has pulled out her singing voice a time or two before.  As has Nicolette Sheridan (but isn’t she dead??). Even Felicity Huffman has rocked the vocals before (with Tina Turner, even!).  I don’t know if Eva can sing or not, but I’m going to guess that, like everything else, she’d be decent at it.  I think it has potential.  I hope they can pull it off because I’d love to see what they do with it.  How about you?

Did you know that actress Dana Delaney was offered (and turned down, obviously) the role of Bree THREE times?  True story.  But currently, she’s being offered another role altogether.  Producers of “Desperate Housewives” are currently in talks with the former “China Beach” star about her signing a contract to play Bree’s sister this next season.  And it sounds like the character would be a pretty juicy one:

Katherine, a former neighbor who is coming home after being away for more than a decade married to a younger man (described as “the best-looking gynecologist in townâ€?), comes back home to Wisteria Lane along with her 17-year-old daughter — who is said to be a bit of a troublemaker herself. In keeping with the always prim and proper character of Bree herself, Katherine is also described as a conservative Republican — but one with a “mastery of passive/aggressiveness.”

I, for one, hope the deal comes through and we see Dana coming to Wisteria Lane this fall.  A sister for Bree, that would be just wonderful.  I’d like to see a woman who can challenge Bree’s uptight-ness, wouldn’t you?

After she dumped him several months ago for being photographed holding the hand of another woman, Jesse Metcalfe is now admitting he is desperate (get it?  “desperate??”) to win ex-girlfriend Nadine Coyle back.  The actor recently flew to the UK to win back her heart.

“I have to persuade Nadine that I didn’t cheat on her. I was always faithful and I never cheated. Those girls that I was photographed with meant nothing to me. I would never betray Nadine.  I still love her and it is my dream we get back together soon.”

Lest you think that’s his only reason to flying to England (because that just might be too romantic and unselfish, of course), he’s also over there talking to recording bosses to see about launching a music career.  Yep, you heard me right.  He wants to sing, apparently.  And that’s not all, either.  Despite having recently said, “I have given up drinking. I have been 100 per cent sober for three-and-a-half months now”, he has been seen out in London  “partying on several occasions, including one wild evening at top nightspot Boujis.”  Well, well.  Good luck there, Jesse.  Sounds like you’ll need it.
