News Brief

dougray-scott.jpg Hello, everyone! I thought I’d take a break from the DVD talk and fill you guys in on some stuff going on with the cast. First up is Dougray Scott. You may remember him as Ian, the guy Susan was dating while Mike was in that coma. He may not be on the Lane anymore, but he’s still been pretty busy. He is currently starring in a remake of Jekyll and Hyde as the title character. It’s billed as a modern retelling of the classic story and airs on the ION network. You can catch it on June 6th at 7PM eastern time.

That’s not all He also stars in a remake of the 10 Commandments on the same channel. That will air on June 1st at 7 PM eastern. He’ll be playing the part of Moses. Still haven’t had enough? Catch him in Dark Water Boy on FX. That airs on June 2nd at 12 AM and 10 AM.

Now that her gig at Wendy’s is done, Eva is turning her attention to more glamorous duties. She’s going to be the host on the ALMA awards again. The ceremony is held every years to honor the best entertainers in the Latin community. She’s also going to be the show’s executive producer. It will be taped in August for broadcast in September. I’ll keep you updated as the show gets closer.

Finally, let’s take a look at the rumor mill, shall we? There are reports out there that Beyonce has been given a guest spot on the series and her father is hoping to make it into something more long-term. Is this for real? Time will tell and I’ll be here to pass along all the info as it is released. Well, that’s it for now. See you next time

Desperate Beginnings

pilot-group-shot.jpg

Good morning, everyone! Today, I want to take you back to 2004 and the episode that started it all. The episode begins with Mary Alice Young doing a voice over about her day as a montage of her running errands and such plays. All of a sudden, it cuts to present time and Mary Alice pulls a gun out and shoots herself. The rest of the episode features each of her friends mourning her loss as they deal with their own problems.

Susan likes the new neighbor, Mike, but she’s too scared to ask him out. Her daughter manages to talk her into it, but by then Edie has already set her sight on him as well. And so starts a rivalry we’ll see many times over the years. Susan discovers Mrs. Huber is watching Edie’s son because of a big date and fears the worst. She goes over under the pretense of borrowing sugar, but doesn’t get an answer. She walks in through a side door only to find clothes thrown about. This depresses her, so she sits down to grab some chocolate, tossing a bra over her shoulder. This hits one of the lit candles and starts a fire. Susan panics and runs, getting upset later when she learns the guy Edie was with got smoke inhalation. Her mood improves again when Mike shows up and she realizes he wasn’t Edie’s big date after all.

gabby-mowing-the-lawn.jpg

Gabby and Carlos spend much of the pilot bickering over a client of his that likes to touch Gabby’s butt, the gifts he buys and their gardener. It’s hard to believe these two end up turning out the way they did. Their arguing seems much nastier and with no humor to it in this one. It’s revealed after Carlos heads out to work that Gabrielle has been messing around with the gardener, hence the reason Carlos sees not much has been done to the lawn. He finally has enough one night when he sees the lawn hasn’t been mowed. Gabby tries to distract Carlos and get them out of there. Once they arrive at the party, Gabby makes sure Carlos is given plenty to drink so she can sneak out and mow the lawn herself, saving John’s job and her affair.

lynette-from-the-pilot.jpg

Lynette spends much of this episode dealing with her bratty kids while Tom is away on business. They cause trouble at the grocery store, at home, even at Mary Alice’s wake. At the wake, they all jump in the pool and refuse to come out, forcing Lynette to go in after them and drag them all out. Through all the trouble, Tom remains oblivious and even says they should “risk it” when Lynette asks him to use protection. That, of course, is met with a punch to the face by Lynette that puts an end to all the action that was about to happen.

bree-and-rex.thumbnail.jpg Finally, there’s Bree. The picture of perfection on the outside, but underneath she’s not happy. Her family is miserable, too. They’d rather have pork and beans than wait for her to take three hours to make some gourmet meal. Rex is so fed up with her focus on perfection, he tells her he wants a divorce while they’re out to dinner. Bree is shocked, but tries to brush it off and act like everything is fine. They are, after all, out in public. She’s so upset (though she won’t show it), she accidently puts onions in Rex’s salad, causing him an allergic reaction. While at the hospital, Rex finally lets it all out about how much he hates perfection and wants her to be more like she used to be. I personally have a hard time believing Bree ever burnt toast and was anything other than perfectly neat.

As the episode ends, all the women gather to help get rid of Mary Alice’s things. They end up finding a note in them saying “I know what you did. It makes me sick. I’m going to tell.” The camera pans away with all the women wondering what it means.

I love this episode. There were so many classic moments in it and everyone’s characters were introduced perfectly. I would say Lynette was probably the best, even though I loved everyone in this one. Felicity Huffman captures a tired, stressed-out mom wonderfully and who doesn’t love that scene of her dragging those kids out of the pool while trying to maintain some dignity? Well, that’s all for now. See y’all next time with more reviews, news and other stuff. For now, I leaves you with some great lines from the pilot. Enjoy!

“Carlos, who worked in mergers and acquisitions, proposed on their third date. Gabrielle was touched when tears welled up in his eyes. But she soon discovered that this happened every time Carlos closed a big deal.” - Mary Alice

“When Rex started going to those medical conferences, I wanted it in the back of his mind that he had a loving wife at home with a loaded Smith & Wesson.” - Bree

“Oh, please. The man’s gotten me pregnant three times in four years. I wish he was having sex with someone else.” - Lynette

Susan: So, is that your project for school? You know, when I was in fifth grade, I made the White House out of sugar cubes.
Julie: Stop stalling and go before Mike figures out he can do better.
Susan: Tell me again why I fought for custody for you.
Julie: You were using me to hurt dad.

Rex: I can’t believe you tried to kill me.
Bree: Yes, well, I feel badly about that.

eva-at-wendys.jpg If you were at Wendy’s in Corpus Christi yesterday, you may have seen someone familiar behind the counter: Eva Longoria Parker. In a total departure from her character, Eva spent some time serving up fast food… Gabby would be appalled! So, why was the star moonlighting? According to reports, it was to help out a great cause.

Eva was there to kick off the Father’s Day Frosty Weekend. The event is in support of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and its Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program. For every Frosty served, the charity got 50 cents towards its cause. You all may remember the late Dave Thomas, founder of the chain, was adopted himself and often did things like this to promote the issue of adoption and help fellow adoptees. The weekend event wasn’t exactly something new for Eva. She spent several years working at the same Wendy’s before she found success as an actress.

eva-at-spurs-vs-lakers-game.jpgThat’s not all she’s up to during her hiatus. Eva has also been spotted here and there at basketball games to support husband Tony Parker. His team, the Spurs, are currently competing in the NBA playoffs. The image to the right is from a game on May 23, 2008 against the Lakers. The teams played at the Staples center in LA.

Well, that’s all for now. Check back next time to see what some other cast members are up to. I’ll also be starting my look back on the series with the pilot episode. Til then, take care!

Desperate Husbands

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

ricardo.thumbnail.jpgThe Housewives aren’t the only desperate ones on Wysteria Lane. I thought it was time we highlighted some of the men on the block, starting with Carlos Solis himself, Ricardo Antonio Chavira.

I’d say Carlos is my favorite of the husbands on the show and Ricardo plays him perfectly. Take the scene where Carlos gets busted for beating up Justin because he thinks that Gabby was sleeping with him. When he finds out that Justin is actually gay, you can seriously see the headache he’s getting as he realizes the mess he’s just gotten himself into while he says “not again”. I also enjoyed the resignation and defeat in his voice as he tells the cop he wants his lawyer.

Carlos isn’t exactly the nicest of characters (just consider the scene above, plus the other times he turned to violence), but Ricardo manages to make him likeable no matter what trouble he’s getting himself into. And, being with Gabby, that’s plenty.

In real life, Ricardo is much more charitable than his TV counterpart. He’s been actively involved in supporting the fight against breast cancer. He was named captain of the “Race for the Cure” in 2005 and was also part of the Lee National Denim Day. For that one, he teamed up with fellow desperate husband James Denton to raise over 10 million for the cause. He was also honored for his work in the fight against AIDS by the Latino Commission. Not bad for someone who makes his career as a troublemaker.

Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see you next time with more news, reviews and other cool stuff.

The New Neighbor?

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Good morning, everyone. Hope you’re all enjoying the holiday weekend. Since we’re back to seeing reruns again, I thought I’d take some time to talk about the Season 1 DVD set for those who don’t have it. I got the chance to borrow it recently and I’m enjoying it a lot. It has, of course, all the episodes plus some great features. There are interviews, commentary, behind-the-scenes stuff and more.

dvd-cap.jpgOne of my favorite features is “Oprah Winfrey is the New Neighbor”. It’s a skit in which Winfrey plays Karen Stofer, a woman longing for a simpler life away from the big city and the pressures of a running huge company. Guess she didn’t check out the area carefully enough… Anyway, the skit briefly features the Housewives themselves introducing themselves to her. Once they leave, Karen decides to go to the store and get some sugar so she can make a special dessert in honor of their first night in a new home. Her husband talks her into borrowing some from the neighbors because “people in the suburbs live for that stuff.”

Oprah then goes on a mission to get sugar, getting spliced into scenes from the first season. She interacts with Susan after she was locked out of the house naked, watches Lynette yelling at the kids and other stuff. She runs home to tell her husband there is something very wrong with this neighborhood. Later, she goes on a walk and comes across a sight that causes her to demand they leave immediately.

I thought it was pretty amusing to see a relatively normal person getting thrown into the world of Wysteria Lane and realizing these people are seriously messed up… but isn’t that the fun of the show? Well, I’m out of here. There’s plenty more of the way this week, so stay tuned!

Classic Desperation

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

We all know that Susan is good at getting herself into trouble. Still, she really outdid herself in this scene from the season one episode “Pretty Little Picture”. Susan is having a fight with Karl and, for some unknown reason, follows him outside the house in her towel to continue the argument. Meanwhile, he’s already getting in his car. Susan gets out everything she wants to say and slams the car door shut as Karl begins to drive off. Unfortunately, she managed to get part of the towel stuck in the door and is now naked in front of her house. What follows is some great physical comedy by Teri as she attempts to get inside the house after realizing she’s also managed to lock herself out. How did Julie survive her childhood again? Anyway… the best part of the scene is at the end, where Susan has just fallen in one of her bushes while trying to climb in a window. As she’s laying there, completely embarrassed, Mike arrives to add to her troubles.

teris-favorite-scene.jpg

I decided to use this scene because, like the scene with Bree and the gun, it demonstrates who this character is. She’s a woman who’s been hurt, she’s angry, but she’s also trying to get past it. She’s also got an uncanny ability to get into trouble despite how hard she tries. She’s serious and emotional, yet completely clumsy. I also wanted to use this one because Teri said it was one of her favorite scenes during an interview on the season 1 DVD. I’ll have more on the DVD next time. For now, take care and have a great weekend. See you Monday!

Actor and Actress of the Week

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

The finale had many great scenes and some great acting in it. Still, there were two that stood out to me this time: Doug Savant and Dana Delaney.

doug-savant.jpg I’ve made no secret of the fact I haven’t been thrilled with Tom’s behavior lately regarding Kayla and the fact he seemed to be blaming Lynette for what happened. Still, for the first time this week, his performance sold me on what I understood to be beneath it all the whole time. Tom knows there’s a problem, but it’s unlike anything they’ve ever dealt with before. The truth about Kayla is just too much for him to accept. I especially loved the scene when Kayla is leaving and crying for Tom to let her stay. While I agree with those who think that was a calculated move by Kayla, I still liked it because of Doug Savant. You could see the pain on his face as he struggles to do what he has to do instead of giving in to his kid’s tears. Reality has come crashing down and he’s facing it.

dana-at-the-fifi-awards.jpgI adore Dana Delaney on this show. Katherine is making an excellent buddy for Bree and I see her bringing a lot to the group in the future. This week, though, I especially loved her performance during the big reveal. When Katherine screams after finding OriginalDylan’s lifeless body, I got chills. I also loved how she also was able to perfectly show a combination of pain and detachment while watching her daughter be buried. She knows what she’s doing is wrong, but she doesn’t feel she has a choice so she’s trying to distance herself emotionally. She also did great during the scene with Teri Hatcher when she’s trying to find NewDylan. Dana was wearing her desperation on her sleeve and made me feel it, too. Kudos to the both of them! I’m looking forward to seeing what they do next season.

Well, that’s it for today. Take care and I’ll see y’all tomorrow with the DVD talk I promised.

Desperate Housewives Out and About

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

Good morning, everyone! Later on today, I’ll be giving you the actor/actress of the week. For now? Let’s check it on where some of the cast has been showing up lately.

brenda-and-eva.jpg

This picture of Eva and Brenda was taken on April 28th. They were Events of the Heart’s “You Gotta Have Heart” premiere in Westwood, California. It’s always a bit surprising to me to see Brenda next to the other cast members, since she’s so much taller.

marcia-and-elizabeth.jpg How’s this for a random paring? That’s Elizabeth Berkley (yes, the chick from Saved by the Bell and Showgirls) chatting with Marcia during the Feed 100 reception at Whole Foods in LA. That took place just a few days ago, on May 19th.

Finally, Felicity Huffman was spotted at the Rogan for Target event at Barneys in Beverly Hills on May 15th. I gotta say that the filming break looks like it’s agreeing with everyone.

felicity-at-rogan-for-target.jpg

Andrea Bowen’s not just sitting around now that Julie’s on her way to college. Besides the album I mentioned a few posts back, she’s appearing in the play Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenaged Blockhead. It’s a twisted take on the Peanuts gang, where Andrea will be playing Charlie Brown’s sister. The show opens June 7th at Hudson Backstage Theatre in LA. She’s also considering an offer from Dancing with the Stars.

Are you fearless about spoilers and wanna hear some gossip about next season? Well, read on. (more…)

This and That

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Good morning, everyone! So, how about that finale? I have to say that’s one of the best episodes yet in a season I already really liked. Looks like I’m not alone, either. According to various media outlets, Desperate Housewives came out a winner this year. It beat CSI to become the most-watched scripted series this season, ending the crime drama’s 5-year reign. Not only that, the finale averaged 16.8 million viewers this week.

In other not-so-great news… AFTRA is apparently having a tough time coming to an agreement with the Producer’s union over new contracts for their actors. SAG has already bowed out of the negotiations for now. Is another strike in the cards for Hollywood, already trying to recover from the writer’s walk out? Only time will tell. If there is one, it won’t start until the end of June and would mostly affect films for now, as the TV season just ended. Just like the writers, the actor’s unions are making new media (the internet/cell phones) the big issue in the talks. I’ll post updates as I find them. Hopefully, this will all be resolved quickly so we can get a more normal season in the fall.

eva-at-kung-fu-panda-premiere.jpg

The housewives are definitely keeping themselves busy during their summer break. They’re popping up in all kinds of places lately, from film premieres to charity events. The picture above shows Eva Longoria at the premiere of Kung Fu Panda. The picture below shows Teri Hatcher at the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Poker Fundraiser.

teri-plays-poker.jpg

Finally, check out the Housewives on TV! Felicity Huffman’s movie Snap Decision will be on Lifetime Movie Network on the 23rd at 4 PM eastern. Marcia Cross and Doug Savant can be seen on Soapnet repeats of Melrose Place. Episodes will begin airing again on May 27th at 12 PM eastern. Doug can also be seen on a repeat of CSI. That will air tonight at 7 PM eastern and again at midnight. How is that for timing? Well, I’m out of here for now. Check back tomorrow to see what Felicity and Marcia are up to during their time off. See ya then!

“The Gun Song/Free”

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

finale-title-cap.jpg Last night was the finale, and what an episode it was If you missed it, fear not. I’ve got your recap right here. As I did with the last one, I’m going to go family by family.

tom-in-finale.jpgThe episode opens with Lynette making breakfast for the kids. The boys wanna know why Lynette is making waffles. She explains that they are Kayla’s favorite and she’s trying to do something nice for her. Just as Lynette’s putting some plates on the table, a knock sounds at the door. She opens the door to some nice people from CPS, who explain that Kayla’s doctor called and reported Kayla is being abused. Lynette tries to explain that Kayla exaggerates, but the CPS people have a tape of Lynette slapping her at the mall. Lynette’s forced to invite them in. Later on, the therapist apologizes for this, but says his hands were tied. He’s bound by law to report any claims of abuse. Lynette says she could strangle Kayla, and Tom tells her this may not be the wisest move. You think? He goes on to explain that the case could cost them their other children as well, so they have to be careful nothing else happens. Kayla is listening from outside the door and gets that usual creepy look. She heads for the bathroom, where she pulls out a curling iron. Later on, Lynette comes home from visiting Susan and the baby to find officers waiting to arrest her. Apparently, Kayla has a burn on her arm. Cut to Lynette in jail, arguing with Tom over the situation. She says something has to be done and she can’t understand why he’s hiding his head in the sand about Kayla. He admits that he knows there’s a problem, but he’s trying to figure out a way to handle it, as she is still his daughter. Lynette’s not happy with this, because that same daughter is basically trying to destroy the family. Tom gets home and walks into Kayla’s room, finishing a conversation on his cell with Andrew. He sets the phone down and brings up the situation with Lynette. Kayla says she’s sorry, but she had to. Lynette scares her. She then asks where Lynette is going to be staying. To her surprise, Tom says she’ll be staying right here. Kayla is the one who has to move. You can see she clearly wasn’t expecting that and actually goes so far as to confess to everything in order to stay. Tom tells her that’s not possible and then picks up the phone, asking if Dr. Dolan got it all. Score one for Tom…. finally. Later on, Tom and Lynette say goodbye to Kayla and she gets in her grandparent’s car. Nor without a parting shot at Lynette though. She brushes off Lynette’s I’m sorry with a no, you’re not . As the car drives away, Kayla starts crying and yelling she’s sorry. Tom gives Lynette an odd look and then walks in the house.

Now, it’s off to the hospital, where Susan and Mike are trying to decide on a name. After rejecting all his quarterback-inspired names and the name of a person they see in the paper who turns out to have murdered people, they settle on Conner. That is, until Mike is told his grandfather died. He asks Susan if it would be ok to name the baby after him. Susan says yes, not realizing the grandfather in question is named Maynard. Ouch Sorry, kid. Susan doesn’t like it anymore than I do, but doesn’t say so because she can see how much it means to Mike. Later on, as the ladies are visiting and put their two cents in about the time, Susan decides she can’t let the kid go through school with this name. She heads down to the records office to change it. Unfortunately, the woman on duty is a stickler for details and won’t let the name change go through without Mike’s signature as well. As luck would have it, another worker walks in and takes over for the first one. Her name? Griselda. Susan tells her that must’ve been a tough name to have on the playground. The woman agrees that it was. When the action comes back to Susan later, a wheelchair with Conner balloons attached is being wheeled in. Susan, of course, panics and makes up a story to get the lady to get rid of the balloons before Mike sees them. The woman isn’t fast enough, though, and the change is exposed. Susan apologizes, but says she couldn’t stand having the kid go through life with that name. Mike doesn’t see it that way. He says his grandfather was a great man that did a lot of good and giving his son that same name is important to him because it has meaning. Susan then caves and says he can be named Maynard… she just hope the kid is worthy of that name. Mike says that’s up to them. Susan isn’t done yet, though. Once Susan is home, Julie announces she’s been given a spot at Princeton. Not only that, one of the professors loved her senior paper so much, he wants her to get there early to serve an internship. Susan refuses to let her, saying they can’t afford that. Mike pulls Susan aside to offer some help via his inheritance. Susan says that’s nice of him and then turns around and claims Mike objects to the fact they don’t know the teacher, so Julie isn’t going. Turns out, Susan is terrified of Julie leaving because she doesn’t think she can make it without her. Julie says Susan is stronger than she thinks and she’ll be fine. Susan gives her her blessing to leave.

gabby-in-finale.jpg

Let’s head over to the Solis house, shall we? Ellie has invited Gabby to go somewhere with her, but Gabby refuses, saying she has to keep an eye on the handyman who has just arrived because he messed up last time. Ellie says ok and takes off. Turns out this handyman is actually one of the cops. He’s planting bugs in the house to bust Ellie and get information on her supplier. Ellie ends up forgetting something and comes back, catching them in her room. Gabby pretends to be having an affair with the guy so Ellie won’t realize what’s really going on. She even kisses the guy. As Ellie leaves, Gabby slaps him for using his tongue. Gabby really has developed a liking for the girl, and even defends her when the cop calls Ellie scum. She changes her tune a bit later, though, when Carlos confronts her about her supposed affair. Gabby starts ranting about not being able to trust people and Carlos gets mad that she’s glossing over what she did. Gabby calls him a moron and tells him what happened early. He’s skeptical about this, leading to a nice Gabby rant. “I’ve got news for you, Carlos: you’re blind You don’t have a choice anymore. You have to believe me. Just like when I hand you the deodorant, you have to trust it’s not oven cleaner. I know it’s not fair, I know it gives me absolute power, but tough You’re screwed. Deal with it.” Gabby isn’t done yet, though. She’s still got Ellie to deal with. When Gabby confronts her about this, Ellie apologizes. She explains that she’s seen what cheating can do and didn’t want to see that happen to them. Gabby actually moved by this. So much so, she warns Ellie when the cops arrive. Ellie takes this as an invitation to call later when she realizes she left a teddy bear at the house. She calls after the two got into a fight over Gabby’s spending to ask if she’ll bring the bear to her. Gabby agrees, but changes her mind after finding a bunch of money hidden inside. She’s counting it as Carlos walks in, going on about their problems and how this must be the Universe’s way of telling them to need to try and be better people. Gabby tells him she found over $100,000. Carlos responds with “Hey, Universe? Bite me.” They’re making plans on what to do with the money, when Ellie calls back about the bear. She can tell Gabby is lying about the bear not being there and threatens to throw acid on her face if she doesn’t get it.

Now, we move on to the Hodges. Bree is sitting in church, wishing people peace as the pastor asked, when she turns to find Orson sitting there. She gets angry and tells him that he won’t win her back by following her around. He argues that they had a life together, so of course they are going to end up at the same places. She doesn’t see it that way. He pops up again later, as Bree is having dinner with Reverend Green, who has just returned to the church. Bree, having told him about their problems, asks if it’s ok to hold his hand so Orson might get the idea and finally leave her alone. He says ok, and Bree takes his hand. Orson, seeing this, decides to leave. This isn’t one of Bree’s better ideas, though. Apparently, the good reverend has had a crush on her for over 10 years now and thinks he has a chance. She tells him no and he gets upset. Mad enough to do a whole sermon next week about promiscuity. Orson finds out about the new topic from one of the people at the church and confronts Reverend Green about it. It turns into a fight, during which a PA system is activated. Bree is embarrassed, yet touched to realize Orson was defending her honor. The Reverend knocks Orson out and he’s taken to the hospital. Bree stops by the check on him and tells a nurse to take excellent care of him because he’s a good man.

finale-screen-cap-1.jpg

Now… the Mayfairs and a reception where everything went wrong. Katherine arrives home to find her ex, Wayne, waiting for her. He wants to know why Dylan doesn’t have a scar. Katherine tells him she took Dylan to a surgeon to get it fixed. He doesn’t believe it. Lucky for her, Lee and Bob (the neighbors who tried to set up Ellie before) arrive to ask her to cater their commitment ceremony. Katherine says she’d be happy to and asks them to come in and talk details. Wayne leaves, promising to come back. She later asks Bree to help her and, in a move that is so fitting for them, they talk details over target practice. Bree asks why Katherine wanted to meet there. Katherine says she wants to get back into practice so she can protect herself and Dylan not that her husband’s not in the house. Bree lectures for a minute on the benefits of hollow-point bullets before they go back to party planning. When Katherine arrives home, Adam is waiting for her, wanting to help with Wayne. They decide to go on vacation to get some quick distance between them and Wayne while they figure out what to do. Later on, as Dylan is getting ready to perform in her recital, Adam tells her they have a surprise they’ll tell her about over dinner. He just hopes her passport is current. Dylan likes this hint. When intermission comes around, Adam walks outside for a minute. He sees a man having car trouble and offers to help. Turns out, it’s Wayne. Wayne knocks him out and take him somewhere, planning to use him to get information. When Katherine realizes he’s missing, she goes to the police. Unfortunately, she gets about the same level of help she did after one of his beatings 14 years ago. He’s got a lot of friends in the force, so no one believes her, then or now. She can tell and decides to do the same thing a female cop advised her to do all those years ago: run. There’s one flaw in her plan, though. Dylan won’t leave until Katherine tells her what’s going on. Knowing she has no choice, Katherine tells Dylan something off camera that causes her to tear out of the house, yelling at Katherine. Desperate to get out of here fact, Katherine tells Bree she’ll have to cater the event alone. Bree, who has just been listening to the others talk about how Katherine is too aloof and will never be one of them, tells them they are going to help her do it.

Since the party barely gets any real attention, I’ll sum it up even quicker and then get back to the action at the Mayfairs. Lynette can’t make swan napkins, Lee and Bob argue over ice sculptures with Tom advising Lee to stick to his guns. Bob agrees to have the one Lee wants but will really use the other. Lynette asks if he’s sure he hasn’t been married before. Bree once again gets bailed out by Orson when he tire blows out while picking up the sculpture. Another fight breaks out between them over the sculpture with Lee calling off the ceremony. Lynette blames Tom for this and demands he fix it. He does with a big speech about them having to learn to get past the little stuff, otherwise they’ll never survive the big stuff like the Scavos have. They need to get their priorities straight, because even all the bad stuff is worth it if you love the person. Lynette is touched and the ceremony is back on.

Ok, back to the Mayfairs. Katherine has been taken hostage by Wayne. He wants to truth about Dylan, but Katherine refuses to tell him. Just then, Ellie runs in, looking to hide out from the cops after getting into a fight at the Solis house that ended with Carlos’ dog going after her. Wayne doesn’t have time for her problems, though, and shoots her in front of Katherine. Just as he starts bragging that Katherine will take the heat for this, an angry Bree comes knocking on the door. She yells through the door that she wants to speak to Katherine now, angry that Katherine is still there after backing out of the catering job to supposedly leave town. Bree ends up joining Katherine as a hostage. Wayne once again demands answers, this time using Bree as leverage. Katherine finally relents and spills her big secret. Apparently, Wayne had arrived at the house to see Dylan when they were still living on Wysteria Lane the first time to give her a doll. Katherine was so freaked out, she took the doll from a sleeping Dylan and set it on top of a huge book case. She is sleeping off a few drinks after having told Wayne off when her aunt screams and yells for her to come in. Katherine tuns into Dylan’s room, finding her daughter crushed beneath the bookcase and ice cold. Apparently, the girl had been trying to climb it to get the doll. Katherine screams, obviously devastated. Her aunt insists they bury Dylan in the woods so Wayne does not try to get her busted for killing her own daughter. Shortly after the burial, Katherine realizes she’ll need to adopt a child to really avoid a problem later. She falls in love with a girl in a Romanian orphanage that looks exactly like Dylan.

After Katherine has confessed the whole story, Wayne is furious. He claims she let Dylan die. He’s just about to attack when Adam rushes in. The two men get into a struggle that takes them out of the room. Bree rushes to get Katherine’s hands untied, but before she can do it, they hear a thump. They look over towards the room and see Adam come out the victor. Wayne isn’t dead though. He even the guts to taunt Katherine, who is now standing in front of him with a gun. He says even if he gets put away for a little while, he’ll come back for her. She says I know you will and shoots him. By now, the whole town is converging on the house. Bree comes outside and pulls Susan aside to let her know what happened. Susan does the same with Gabby.

Katherine is sitting stoically on a couch, refusing to talk. Meanwhile, the other Housewives are outside, telling the cops all about Wayne. They say things like they knew this would happen one day and Katherine always said she was scared of him. Bree also talks to the cops, claiming that Katherine shot him in self-defense while being attacked. The cop who mocked her earlier is forced to rule it as a self-defense case and let her go. Katherine walks past them, giving them a grateful look.

Finally, we get to the part Teri mentioned on the Tonight Show. The last few minutes take us five years ahead in the future. All the ladies, Katherine included, are having their weekly game. Several scenes go by, giving us a peek into their lives. The twins are now full-on delinquents, even going to Juvenile Hall. Bree is a successful Martha Stewert type with her own cook book coming out. She’s also still with Orson. Katherine is thrilled to get a call from Dylan telling her she’s gotten engaged. Gabby is not a bit frumpy and has twin daughters who appear to be a bit of a handful. And, finally, Susan comes home and kisses a man who isn’t Mike.

Well, there ya have it- the 2-hour finale Stay tuned, cause I’m not done yet. This week, look for more cast appearances, stuff about the DVDs, season 4 highlights and more. Til then, take care!

Teri Brought It

Monday, May 19th, 2008

As I promised, I’m back to give you the scoop on Teri Hatcher’s appearance on David Letterman. Since the season just wrapped, she says she’s been working out a lot and horseback riding (English style) and David really pounced on that. She talked about how she’s alright, but not as good as her daughter. She tried quite a few times to get him off the horse subject, but he’s like a dog with a bone.

Finally, she gets the chance to talk about something else: Mother’s Day. Only problem is, the tradition is to go to the racetrack for the celebteri-on-letterman.jpgration, which gets the topic back on horses for a couple minutes. To change the topic, she talks about locking the key for her car in the trunk as they were getting ready to leave the track. She is completely in awe of OnStar, which ended up saving her after she gave them the car’s VIN number. Of course, getting that information was another issue all together. It was dark at the time and she had to go all over the place trying to get someone to lend her a flashlight. Why am I now picturing Susan in a similar situation?

Teri ends the interview by finally getting to live her dream: showing off a stupid pet trick. She brought a clip of her cat catching and returning water bottle caps. She’s apparently always wanted a pet that does something funny just so she can show it on his program. She also gives some quick dish before leaving about the finale. She says the last two minutes are going to be a can’t miss cliffhanger that will set up something for next year. Excited yet? I know I am… even though cliffhangers have a tendency to drive me nuts until it’s resolved.

So what it what she cracked it up to be? Read my recap later on to find out. Til then, take care!

Dana On Leno!

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Hello, again! Well, apparently technology doesn’t like me too much because The View didn’t tape. I’ll still be recapping Teri’s appearance tonight, though. For now? Let’s talk Dana Delaney!
dana-delaney.jpg
She was on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night and she was a blast, with several interesting tidbits coming out of the appearance. First off, she said the season officially wrapped on Tuesday, so she’s starting to travel again. Jay asked what her favorite place was. She said she likes Brazil the best because it’s a combination of sexy and innocent. She also revealed a new talent: trapeze work! A friend of hers was taping lessons and talked Dana into going with her. She said she actually did pretty well, although she was a bit hung over at the time of the lesson. Another interesting fact was she was originally offered the part of Bree on Housewives, but turned it down because the character was too similar to another one she had recently played. After a little guy talk (she’s single, but dating), Jay told her he had an old laundry detergent commercial of hers to play from 1985.

Before she’d let him play it, she said there was a funny story behind that one. As they were filming the commercial, she noticed something crawling in the guy’s hair. He responded with “I thought I got rid of those….” Later on, she ends up coming down with them because the stylist had used the same brush on both of them, which she then passed on to then-boyfriend Treat Williams. Well, come to find out that the guy from the commercial was actually gay and after she told him what had happened, the guy started telling people he gave them to Treat Williams. Jay Leno called it “the best story every told on the tonight show.” It was also the last commercial that Dana ever did. After she told her story, he played the commercial.

And there you have it: Dana Delaney on the Tonight Show. Til now, I hadn’t seen her do an interview before. Now that I have, she’s one of my favorites. Can Teri Hatcher bring it later tonight? We’ll see! For now, have a great weekend and don’t forget the new episode on Sunday night.

“Desperate” Dishing

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Happy Friday, everyone! They may not be busy on the set anymore, but they’re still getting around. First, Eva Longoria-Parker was spotted shopping in France before heading to the Cannes Film Festival. She was there to attend the screening of Blindness. The movie is based on a book by in which people suddenly are unable to see. Eva was also interviewed there by Access Hollywood, where she was presented with a pair of speedos for her husband, Tony Parker. He was unable to attend because he’s busy with the NBA play-offs. Eva joked that she doesn’t have to shop for his birthday now. eva-longoria.jpg

Speaking of Access Hollywood, they also spoke to Marcia Cross, interviewing her about Post-Partum Depression. Since so many celebs have started speaking out about the disease, they asked Marcia if she experienced it at all. She said that she expected to, since she had gone through a bit of depression before, but didn’t. She described herself as very lucky to have avoided it. Marcia also dished a little about her daughter, Savannah. She was embarrassed to admit the girl’s first word was “cracker”, since Marcia eats a lot of them. They also spoke a little bit about the skin cancer project Marcia’s involved in. You can see more about that in my “Talk Show Roundup” post from a few days back.

Well, that’s it for now. I’m not through for the day, though. Later this afternoon, I’ll be talking about Dana Delaney’s and Teri Hatcher’s talk show appearances. Teri’s actually in two of them, so it should be interesting to see what they do or don’t talk about on each.

Getting “Desperate”?

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Don’t. Just because the finale is upon us, that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to see your favorites on TV regularly. Besides the reruns on Lifetime of earlier seasons, the cast is going to be all over your TV and I’ll be keeping you up-to-date on when.

During the rest of this week, you can see Teri Hatcher on The View and The Late Show with David Letterman on the 16th.

Marcia Cross will star in a Seinfeld episode on the 17th. That will air on TBS at 6:30 PM.

Look for Eva Longoria Parker on HBOSGe. Her movie The Sentinal will air on the 16th at 9:45 AM and 11 PM.

Wanna see Brenda Strong instead of just hearing her do the voice-overs? Now’s your chance. She’s going to be in a Seinfeld episode airing on TBS today at 5:30 PM. You can also catch her on HBOSGe in The Deep End of the Ocean.

Reaper isn’t the only place to see Richard Burgi. You can also catch him in Just Shoot Me on TBS. That will air on the 16th at 2:30 PM.

Catch Orson himself, Kyle McLaughlen on the 17th when he stars in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me on IFC. That will air at 11:15 PM.

Dana Delaney will be on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on the 15th at 11:35 PM as well as guest starring on an episode of Cheers. You can see that on TVLand on the 16 at 8 AM. Don’t forget her role in Tombstone, either. That airs on SHOe at 8 AM on the 18th.

By the way…. I’m sure many of you are aware that Marcia was a regular on Melrose Place in the 90s. She played Dr. Kimberly Shaw, someone who makes Bree look like the definition of well adjusted. Well, here’s a clip I found of her from the show. It’s arguably her most famous scene in the whole serious. Well, with the exception of the time she blew the whole building up…

Richard Burgi’s Been a Bad Boy….

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Well, last night the awesome Mr. Richard Burgi guest starred on the CW series Reaper. The series is about a young guy whose parents made a deal with the devil that now forces him to act as the Grim Reaper and send souls on their way to Hell. Burgi’s character, who is ironically named Mike, is one of those souls. Only thing is, he’s apparently got an in with the chick who takes the souls, because she keeps helping him escape.

richard-burgi-on-reaper.jpg

He was pretty good in this part. The character starts off as a seemingly fun and harmless guy who likes to mess around with lots of women. Soon, though, he’s shown to be much nastier and doesn’t have too much of a conscience. Much dodging and a big fight later, he’s finally captured and sent back for good. Burgi managed to mix the fun, slightly wacky personality of the character (which made me think of Karl once or twice) with a more sinister undertone that I really enjoyed. Kudos for him!

By the way… there seemed to be a cute little shout-out to his regular gig in the episode. At one point, Mike is caught in a very nice neighborhood much like Wysteria Lane after being shoved out of a women’s house cause her husband has just gotten back. She even tosses a pair of pants at him, bringing to mind that famous scene of Gabby and John trying to hide what they’ve been up to from Carlos. If you want to see it for yourself, the episode will repeat on the 20th at 8 PM Eastern. That’s all for now! Check back tomorrow morning for more about what the cast has done outside of Wysteria Lane.
