Last night was the finale, and what an episode it was If you missed it, fear not. I’ve got your recap right here. As I did with the last one, I’m going to go family by family.
The episode opens with Lynette making breakfast for the kids. The boys wanna know why Lynette is making waffles. She explains that they are Kayla’s favorite and she’s trying to do something nice for her. Just as Lynette’s putting some plates on the table, a knock sounds at the door. She opens the door to some nice people from CPS, who explain that Kayla’s doctor called and reported Kayla is being abused. Lynette tries to explain that Kayla exaggerates, but the CPS people have a tape of Lynette slapping her at the mall. Lynette’s forced to invite them in. Later on, the therapist apologizes for this, but says his hands were tied. He’s bound by law to report any claims of abuse. Lynette says she could strangle Kayla, and Tom tells her this may not be the wisest move. You think? He goes on to explain that the case could cost them their other children as well, so they have to be careful nothing else happens. Kayla is listening from outside the door and gets that usual creepy look. She heads for the bathroom, where she pulls out a curling iron. Later on, Lynette comes home from visiting Susan and the baby to find officers waiting to arrest her. Apparently, Kayla has a burn on her arm. Cut to Lynette in jail, arguing with Tom over the situation. She says something has to be done and she can’t understand why he’s hiding his head in the sand about Kayla. He admits that he knows there’s a problem, but he’s trying to figure out a way to handle it, as she is still his daughter. Lynette’s not happy with this, because that same daughter is basically trying to destroy the family. Tom gets home and walks into Kayla’s room, finishing a conversation on his cell with Andrew. He sets the phone down and brings up the situation with Lynette. Kayla says she’s sorry, but she had to. Lynette scares her. She then asks where Lynette is going to be staying. To her surprise, Tom says she’ll be staying right here. Kayla is the one who has to move. You can see she clearly wasn’t expecting that and actually goes so far as to confess to everything in order to stay. Tom tells her that’s not possible and then picks up the phone, asking if Dr. Dolan got it all. Score one for Tom…. finally. Later on, Tom and Lynette say goodbye to Kayla and she gets in her grandparent’s car. Nor without a parting shot at Lynette though. She brushes off Lynette’s I’m sorry with a no, you’re not . As the car drives away, Kayla starts crying and yelling she’s sorry. Tom gives Lynette an odd look and then walks in the house.
Now, it’s off to the hospital, where Susan and Mike are trying to decide on a name. After rejecting all his quarterback-inspired names and the name of a person they see in the paper who turns out to have murdered people, they settle on Conner. That is, until Mike is told his grandfather died. He asks Susan if it would be ok to name the baby after him. Susan says yes, not realizing the grandfather in question is named Maynard. Ouch Sorry, kid. Susan doesn’t like it anymore than I do, but doesn’t say so because she can see how much it means to Mike. Later on, as the ladies are visiting and put their two cents in about the time, Susan decides she can’t let the kid go through school with this name. She heads down to the records office to change it. Unfortunately, the woman on duty is a stickler for details and won’t let the name change go through without Mike’s signature as well. As luck would have it, another worker walks in and takes over for the first one. Her name? Griselda. Susan tells her that must’ve been a tough name to have on the playground. The woman agrees that it was. When the action comes back to Susan later, a wheelchair with Conner balloons attached is being wheeled in. Susan, of course, panics and makes up a story to get the lady to get rid of the balloons before Mike sees them. The woman isn’t fast enough, though, and the change is exposed. Susan apologizes, but says she couldn’t stand having the kid go through life with that name. Mike doesn’t see it that way. He says his grandfather was a great man that did a lot of good and giving his son that same name is important to him because it has meaning. Susan then caves and says he can be named Maynard… she just hope the kid is worthy of that name. Mike says that’s up to them. Susan isn’t done yet, though. Once Susan is home, Julie announces she’s been given a spot at Princeton. Not only that, one of the professors loved her senior paper so much, he wants her to get there early to serve an internship. Susan refuses to let her, saying they can’t afford that. Mike pulls Susan aside to offer some help via his inheritance. Susan says that’s nice of him and then turns around and claims Mike objects to the fact they don’t know the teacher, so Julie isn’t going. Turns out, Susan is terrified of Julie leaving because she doesn’t think she can make it without her. Julie says Susan is stronger than she thinks and she’ll be fine. Susan gives her her blessing to leave.

Let’s head over to the Solis house, shall we? Ellie has invited Gabby to go somewhere with her, but Gabby refuses, saying she has to keep an eye on the handyman who has just arrived because he messed up last time. Ellie says ok and takes off. Turns out this handyman is actually one of the cops. He’s planting bugs in the house to bust Ellie and get information on her supplier. Ellie ends up forgetting something and comes back, catching them in her room. Gabby pretends to be having an affair with the guy so Ellie won’t realize what’s really going on. She even kisses the guy. As Ellie leaves, Gabby slaps him for using his tongue. Gabby really has developed a liking for the girl, and even defends her when the cop calls Ellie scum. She changes her tune a bit later, though, when Carlos confronts her about her supposed affair. Gabby starts ranting about not being able to trust people and Carlos gets mad that she’s glossing over what she did. Gabby calls him a moron and tells him what happened early. He’s skeptical about this, leading to a nice Gabby rant. “I’ve got news for you, Carlos: you’re blind You don’t have a choice anymore. You have to believe me. Just like when I hand you the deodorant, you have to trust it’s not oven cleaner. I know it’s not fair, I know it gives me absolute power, but tough You’re screwed. Deal with it.” Gabby isn’t done yet, though. She’s still got Ellie to deal with. When Gabby confronts her about this, Ellie apologizes. She explains that she’s seen what cheating can do and didn’t want to see that happen to them. Gabby actually moved by this. So much so, she warns Ellie when the cops arrive. Ellie takes this as an invitation to call later when she realizes she left a teddy bear at the house. She calls after the two got into a fight over Gabby’s spending to ask if she’ll bring the bear to her. Gabby agrees, but changes her mind after finding a bunch of money hidden inside. She’s counting it as Carlos walks in, going on about their problems and how this must be the Universe’s way of telling them to need to try and be better people. Gabby tells him she found over $100,000. Carlos responds with “Hey, Universe? Bite me.” They’re making plans on what to do with the money, when Ellie calls back about the bear. She can tell Gabby is lying about the bear not being there and threatens to throw acid on her face if she doesn’t get it.
Now, we move on to the Hodges. Bree is sitting in church, wishing people peace as the pastor asked, when she turns to find Orson sitting there. She gets angry and tells him that he won’t win her back by following her around. He argues that they had a life together, so of course they are going to end up at the same places. She doesn’t see it that way. He pops up again later, as Bree is having dinner with Reverend Green, who has just returned to the church. Bree, having told him about their problems, asks if it’s ok to hold his hand so Orson might get the idea and finally leave her alone. He says ok, and Bree takes his hand. Orson, seeing this, decides to leave. This isn’t one of Bree’s better ideas, though. Apparently, the good reverend has had a crush on her for over 10 years now and thinks he has a chance. She tells him no and he gets upset. Mad enough to do a whole sermon next week about promiscuity. Orson finds out about the new topic from one of the people at the church and confronts Reverend Green about it. It turns into a fight, during which a PA system is activated. Bree is embarrassed, yet touched to realize Orson was defending her honor. The Reverend knocks Orson out and he’s taken to the hospital. Bree stops by the check on him and tells a nurse to take excellent care of him because he’s a good man.

Now… the Mayfairs and a reception where everything went wrong. Katherine arrives home to find her ex, Wayne, waiting for her. He wants to know why Dylan doesn’t have a scar. Katherine tells him she took Dylan to a surgeon to get it fixed. He doesn’t believe it. Lucky for her, Lee and Bob (the neighbors who tried to set up Ellie before) arrive to ask her to cater their commitment ceremony. Katherine says she’d be happy to and asks them to come in and talk details. Wayne leaves, promising to come back. She later asks Bree to help her and, in a move that is so fitting for them, they talk details over target practice. Bree asks why Katherine wanted to meet there. Katherine says she wants to get back into practice so she can protect herself and Dylan not that her husband’s not in the house. Bree lectures for a minute on the benefits of hollow-point bullets before they go back to party planning. When Katherine arrives home, Adam is waiting for her, wanting to help with Wayne. They decide to go on vacation to get some quick distance between them and Wayne while they figure out what to do. Later on, as Dylan is getting ready to perform in her recital, Adam tells her they have a surprise they’ll tell her about over dinner. He just hopes her passport is current. Dylan likes this hint. When intermission comes around, Adam walks outside for a minute. He sees a man having car trouble and offers to help. Turns out, it’s Wayne. Wayne knocks him out and take him somewhere, planning to use him to get information. When Katherine realizes he’s missing, she goes to the police. Unfortunately, she gets about the same level of help she did after one of his beatings 14 years ago. He’s got a lot of friends in the force, so no one believes her, then or now. She can tell and decides to do the same thing a female cop advised her to do all those years ago: run. There’s one flaw in her plan, though. Dylan won’t leave until Katherine tells her what’s going on. Knowing she has no choice, Katherine tells Dylan something off camera that causes her to tear out of the house, yelling at Katherine. Desperate to get out of here fact, Katherine tells Bree she’ll have to cater the event alone. Bree, who has just been listening to the others talk about how Katherine is too aloof and will never be one of them, tells them they are going to help her do it.
Since the party barely gets any real attention, I’ll sum it up even quicker and then get back to the action at the Mayfairs. Lynette can’t make swan napkins, Lee and Bob argue over ice sculptures with Tom advising Lee to stick to his guns. Bob agrees to have the one Lee wants but will really use the other. Lynette asks if he’s sure he hasn’t been married before. Bree once again gets bailed out by Orson when he tire blows out while picking up the sculpture. Another fight breaks out between them over the sculpture with Lee calling off the ceremony. Lynette blames Tom for this and demands he fix it. He does with a big speech about them having to learn to get past the little stuff, otherwise they’ll never survive the big stuff like the Scavos have. They need to get their priorities straight, because even all the bad stuff is worth it if you love the person. Lynette is touched and the ceremony is back on.
Ok, back to the Mayfairs. Katherine has been taken hostage by Wayne. He wants to truth about Dylan, but Katherine refuses to tell him. Just then, Ellie runs in, looking to hide out from the cops after getting into a fight at the Solis house that ended with Carlos’ dog going after her. Wayne doesn’t have time for her problems, though, and shoots her in front of Katherine. Just as he starts bragging that Katherine will take the heat for this, an angry Bree comes knocking on the door. She yells through the door that she wants to speak to Katherine now, angry that Katherine is still there after backing out of the catering job to supposedly leave town. Bree ends up joining Katherine as a hostage. Wayne once again demands answers, this time using Bree as leverage. Katherine finally relents and spills her big secret. Apparently, Wayne had arrived at the house to see Dylan when they were still living on Wysteria Lane the first time to give her a doll. Katherine was so freaked out, she took the doll from a sleeping Dylan and set it on top of a huge book case. She is sleeping off a few drinks after having told Wayne off when her aunt screams and yells for her to come in. Katherine tuns into Dylan’s room, finding her daughter crushed beneath the bookcase and ice cold. Apparently, the girl had been trying to climb it to get the doll. Katherine screams, obviously devastated. Her aunt insists they bury Dylan in the woods so Wayne does not try to get her busted for killing her own daughter. Shortly after the burial, Katherine realizes she’ll need to adopt a child to really avoid a problem later. She falls in love with a girl in a Romanian orphanage that looks exactly like Dylan.
After Katherine has confessed the whole story, Wayne is furious. He claims she let Dylan die. He’s just about to attack when Adam rushes in. The two men get into a struggle that takes them out of the room. Bree rushes to get Katherine’s hands untied, but before she can do it, they hear a thump. They look over towards the room and see Adam come out the victor. Wayne isn’t dead though. He even the guts to taunt Katherine, who is now standing in front of him with a gun. He says even if he gets put away for a little while, he’ll come back for her. She says I know you will and shoots him. By now, the whole town is converging on the house. Bree comes outside and pulls Susan aside to let her know what happened. Susan does the same with Gabby.
Katherine is sitting stoically on a couch, refusing to talk. Meanwhile, the other Housewives are outside, telling the cops all about Wayne. They say things like they knew this would happen one day and Katherine always said she was scared of him. Bree also talks to the cops, claiming that Katherine shot him in self-defense while being attacked. The cop who mocked her earlier is forced to rule it as a self-defense case and let her go. Katherine walks past them, giving them a grateful look.
Finally, we get to the part Teri mentioned on the Tonight Show. The last few minutes take us five years ahead in the future. All the ladies, Katherine included, are having their weekly game. Several scenes go by, giving us a peek into their lives. The twins are now full-on delinquents, even going to Juvenile Hall. Bree is a successful Martha Stewert type with her own cook book coming out. She’s also still with Orson. Katherine is thrilled to get a call from Dylan telling her she’s gotten engaged. Gabby is not a bit frumpy and has twin daughters who appear to be a bit of a handful. And, finally, Susan comes home and kisses a man who isn’t Mike.
Well, there ya have it- the 2-hour finale Stay tuned, cause I’m not done yet. This week, look for more cast appearances, stuff about the DVDs, season 4 highlights and more. Til then, take care!
