Actress of the Week
I usually tape Desperate Housewives and 24 (which I also do a blog on) whether I’m home to watch it or not because I like to re-watch when working on some of the posts. It’s easy to miss little details here and there (or get called away from the TV). In this case, I missed a few minutes at the beginning of the latest episode. I actually sat down to watch it about the time Edie was telling Susan about Karl’s fling with his secretary. Because of that, I actually was getting kind of a ‟let’s make Edie a Saint‟ vibe from the writers that kind of surprised me.
I was glad to watch the first few minutes this morning because it gave me a different perspective on the episode. After seeing the whole thing, I think it had a great balance between highlighting the good parts of the character while recognizing she was anything but saintly. I particularly loved getting to see that Edie and Susan were once good friends and how they met (figures Susan would get spotted eating a pastry out of her garbage can cause ‘it hit the laundry detergent box’).
I think given what a showcase this episode was, that Nicollette is my actress of the week this time around. She did an awesome job of portraying all the facets they showed to Edie: her snarky/blunt nature, her helpful and nice side as well as her darker/reflective side. She also did pretty well with the voiceover. Good for her for a great run on the show. Take care and I’ll see y’all next time. I leave y’all with an Edie tribute by reeceybitch:
