Actor/Actress of the Week

Actress(es) of the Week

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

So, usually I pick a favorite actress for the week. Someone who really stood out and stole the show. I couldn’t do that this time, because one scene stuck out to me instead. It was the last scene between Gabby and Lynette.

One of the best things about this show is usually the friendships between the housewives. They get tested a lot, but in the end they always manage to get past whatever happened. I mean, come on… they forgave Edie didn’t they? That’s what I loved that last scene. Gabby and Lynette both had both been used by the other and they were angry about it. Still, it seemed like they really understood what each one was going through and are willing to overlook it all and not let it mess up the friendship they have.

The situations they’re finding themselves in are tough and each one seems to understand that. What made the scene even better is I don’t remember Gabby and Lynette really having scenes like that before. The actresses and characters play off each other well and I say give them more scenes together without the rest of the gang. I also think it was pretty amusing how Gabby is able to tell Lynette is bluffing. I’m a little disappointed though… I would’ve thought Lynette would have a much better poker face than that.

So what do you guys think? Am I right in my pick? Would you have chosen someone else instead? Comment and let me know! I’ll leave you guys with a youtube clip of them in action, thanks to coll DHfan. Take care and see y’all next time.

Actress of the Week

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

marciaHello again!! I thought about who I should pick for actor/actress of the week for a bit and I finally came to one conclusion: I had to pick Marcia Cross/Bree Hodge. This season has been a pretty interesting one for her (and Gabby/Carlos) in particular and I love where Bree is going with her cook book and how Marcia is portraying her first steps into the world of fame. This latest episode was a great example of Bree’s struggle.

I loved how Marcia was able to go so quickly from being excited about what’s happening for her and concern for Lynette’s situation. It was a fine line Bree had to walk between trying to help and getting in the way. Unfortunately, she seemed to get in the way just a bit. Still, Marcia made Bree’s guilt, sadness and frustration evident and I can’t wait to see how this all plays out in the future between them.

One of my favorite moments was the scene were she was showing the new car off and the others inform her of Lynette’s problems. The line about being glad she didn’t show her how it parks itself was funny and she nailed the delivery. I also loved her response to the girls wanting to see. I think Marcia made a great choice by adopting a bit of a child-like tone when she said it.

My honorable mention goes to James Denton for the scene where he tells Susan off about her saying that ‘they’ are falling short when Mike is working around the clock. I thought he put the perfect amount of annoyance, frustration and matter-of-factness in it. Congrats to them both! So, who do you think was the best? Be sure to comment and let me know.

Actor/Actress of the Week

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Good morning, again!! I’m here today to bring you my pick for Actor of the Week. I know I’ve been a bit predictable in my choices recently, but I couldn’t help it. There have been a few actors who have been stealing the show lately. Still… this week, I have something new for you!

Brenda Strong/Mary Alice and Beau Bridges/Eli Scruggs. Eli was just fun the whole episode, but that last flashback with him and Mary Alice stole the show. Especially her delivery on the voice over at the end. Another great part of the scene was the look they exchange when she notices his torn shoe. They managed to fill that look with meaning without going overboard. Kudos to the both of them. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see them again one day in another flashback. It would be a crime if they didn’t use him again at some point. I could go on some more about the acting and writing in this scene, but I really can’t do it justice, so check it out for yourself thanks to Larson1988 on youtube:

See what I mean? I think if this doesn’t get the show some awards nominations, nothing will! So do you agree with this choice or were you more moved by Lynette deciding to help Penny with her assignment? Did you think Gabby’s admitting she wants friends was better? How about Bree when she’s given back the cookbook notes? Be sure to let me know what your own favorites were in the comments section. Until next time, take care.

Character/Actress of the Week

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

Good morning, everyone!! I’m here to share my favorite actor and character of the week. This time, I’ve decided to pick Felicity Huffman/Lynette. The character isn’t always one of my favorites (yoga class, anyone?), but this week she really stood out. We all know Lynette’s always been a major schemer. She planted a mouse in her home to get Tom to clean, turned into a party animal for a night to get her boss to stop wanting to hang out all the time and even talked Tom’s boss’ wife into vetoing his promotion. Still, she really topped herself this week and I can’t say she was wrong. In fact, I thought she was awesome for it.

For those who missed it (here’s the recap), she pretended to be hurt in an accident because she knew it was the only way to get Porter and her mom to come to her and save her son from more trouble, not to mention the family’s livelihood. I thought it was completely brilliant and I love how it led to her and her mom patching things up again. Imagine that- a Lynette scheme that actually works out perfectly all around! Usually someone gets burned by her ideas.

I think a huge part of why I still like Lynette is Felicity. She manages to make her actually likeable once in awhile and she sold that last scene with her mom without saying a word- the voice over wasn’t even needed. Just watching their expressions and the smile on Felicity’s face was enough to show you just how much fun they were having. I’m excited to see what they’re going to give her next. She needs to start winning more awards soon. So, did I make a good choice? Was there someone you would’ve picked instead? Let me know! See ya next time!

Actress of the Week

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

Good morning, everyone! So, how did everyone enjoy the episode on Sunday? I know I did and I’m here to talk about my favorite of the week: Nicollette Sheridan. I’ve always enjoyed the character for the comic relief she usually provides, but it’s nice to see her getting more to do with this whole Dave situation. The latest episode proves how good she can be.

In the episode, she goes from annoyance and arrogantly telling Dave that she “does stay lonely long” to being hurt and angry when Dave reveals the fact he was married before. The look on her face and the tone in her voice as she told him to get out was great and I love how she’s still got that rough edge to the character. Early on, she was so whipped, I was worried the character might lose some of her spark, but that wasn’t the case. Good for her.

I’m looking forward to getting to see how she handles herself as the season goes on, because I get the feeling she’s going to have a lot to do soon. Much more than she ever has before on the show- and it’s about time.

So what do you all think? Is Nicollette up to the challenge? Did she bring it last week? Is there someone else you would have picked instead? Be sure to comment and let me know. I love to dish! By the way- the picture here is from her birthday celebration in November at Luau. She’s standing with actress and singer Michelle Phillips. That’s it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow!

Actors of the Week!

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008

Good morning, everyone!! I’m back again and ready to talk about my favorite performers this week. I’ve chosen Neal and Ricardo Antonio Chavira for this episode. Yeah, I know… I choose Neal a lot. Still, he earns it and has been stealing the season from the regulars, in my opinion.

During the last episode, Neal took it to a whole new level. He’s got some crazy stuff to play, but he’s making it so believable. You can literally feel the pain and sadness coming off of him, especially in a couple of the scenes. The one where he finds out Porter was arrested was one. He seemed to be so torn up about it but he conveyed the fact that he committed to getting what he feels has to be done done. I love that about him and the character. Another great scene was when he was talking to the ghosts of his wife and kid and the camera moves to reveal he is actually speaking to the headstones. Even when I saw the concrete staring back at me on the screen, I believed they were still standing there because he seemed to believe that so strongly. Good work on his part for that one.

Finally, I wanna give Antonio some props this time. He’s been handling his blindness plot well and this week, I really enjoyed watching him come to the realization that Gabby has sacrificed almost everything she owns to keep them afloat. You can see him mentally kicking himself over yelling at her for the baseball then and gaining more respect for her and her new frugal ways.

So, there you have it: my favorite actors this week. So, did I do a good job picking? Is there someone else you would’ve chosen instead? Let me know in the comments section. Take care and see ya next time!

Actor/Actress and Scene of the Week!

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Good morning, everyone! I’m gonna do something a little different this week. I wanna share my “Scene of the Week” with you because there was one that really stood out. Check it the transcript I made below…

Andrew: Remember Charlie, the kitchen guy you fired for stealing? Well, he called and asked how you could prove it and I said ‘we’ve got a surveillance tape, scuzzball’. Well, guess who stole the tape last night?
Bree: That does it! We’re pressing charges.
Andrew: You might wanna hold off on that because according to Charlie that surveillance tape is also a sex tape.
Bree: What?!
Andrew: Yeah. He says it shows a couple really going at it. Any idea who those crazy kids might be?
Orson: Oh, dear God.
Andrew: Yep, I thought so.
Bree: How can this be happening? (Quietly to Orson) Before anything got serious, I turned the camera off!
Orson (Quietly to Bree): I turned it off, too.
Bree (Quietly to Orson): I didn’t see you do that.
Orson (Quietly to Bree): You were looking for the olive oil.
Bree (Quietly to Orson): Obviously, you turned it back on! (To Andrew) We need to get that tape back!
Andrew: Break out your checkbook. He wants 2 grand for it.
Bree: $2,000??
Andrew: Or he’s gonna post it on youtube.
Orson: What are we gonna do?
Andrew: Well, first you can decide what your porn names are gonna be.
Bree: This is not a joke. My cookbook comes out next month. My old-fashion, traditional cookbook. This could ruin me!
Orson: Alright, we’ll just pay him.
Bree: No! I refuse to pay blackmail to a hooligan who’s stolen from us twice. (She smiles at Andrew) All my life I have done my best to teach you to respect God, the law and to never harm another living thing. I want you to forget everyone one of those lessons if it will help you get that tape back.
Andrew (Interested): Wow… so carte blanche?
Orson: Within reason. We are not condoning arson, violence or-
Bree (cuts him off): Orson, don’t cramp the boy’s style.

I love this scene because it shows that wicked, scheming side of Bree- something we don’t see all that much of anymore. I also like the fact that, despite all his character growth, we still see this glimpse of the old Andrew underneath which is very realistic to me. No matter how much people change, they do have those core character traits that can come back to the surface now and then. I’m just hoping Bree doesn’t end up regretting this free pass she gave him later on.

And now… let’s talk character of the week! I have to pick Felicity Huffman for her portrayal of Lynette this time. It was great to see the protective mama bear side of her come out to play this time. And that scene where she smacks around Anne? The look on her face was almost scary. Felicity really seemed to lose herself in the moment. How much do y’all wanna bet we’ll find out later that one of those slaps was actually real? Well, that’s all for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow!

Actor/Actress of the Week (and some dish…)

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Hello, everyone! Happy day after the election. No matter who you supported, I hope everyone went out there and made their selection. Now, I’m gonna give you my selection: for actor/actress that is!

This week, I pick Kathryn Joosten and Lily Tomlin. Their sisterly interactions were gold this week and I’m kinda hoping for a flashback to that Florida vacation. They were not only a hoot, they genuinely seemed (and looked) like they could be sisters. Once again- kudos to the casting department. Y’all should be getting raises right about now. I, for one, am really looking forward to seeing that relationship play out in future episodes. Lily Tomlin threw those one-liners out so effortlessly, you would’ve sworn she’d been playing this part for more than one episode.

Now, let’s talk some other news. The ratings are in for the latest episode and, once again, it’s good news. They managed a rating of 15.9 million this week, keeping 100% of their 18-49 year-old audience in the process. They also managed a slight increase about 18-34 year-olds. Both groups are favorites of advertisers, by the way. It’s also been named the most watched non-sports show Sunday night. Clearly, this 5 year leap into the future is working.

TV Guide seems to feel the same way. I just found out that they’ve picked next Sunday’s episode as their show to watch for the week. Start setting those VCRs now! If they should fail you, don’t worry. I’ll be here to give ya the play-by-play the next day, as always. For now? I’m out of here. Take care and I’ll see you again next time.

Actor/Charater of the Week

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Good morning, everyone!! I’m here to give you my “Actor/Character of the Week” pick, but first, I have a little news to share that’s related to the show…

I’m sure by now a lot of you have heard of the 90210 re-make that has become a hit for the CW. One of the good things about the show is their use of original characters. Well… that’s gone so well that the CW is looking into doing the same for Melrose Place. With several original cast members having come back to 90210, it makes me wonder who the producers might lure back for a guest spot should Melrose make it out of the development process. Could we see Marcia Cross popping on as crazy Kimberly Shaw one more time? Or what about Doug Savant as Matt Fielding? The double-duty possibilities are very intriguing, although maybe unlikely.

Also? I saw James Denton on the Bonnie Hunt show yesterday. He was on there to promote the new season and his Band from TV project. He spent most of the time, though, talking about his kids. Apparently his son is a very serious, quiet type who likes to wear ties and reads way beyond his years. His daughter, on the other hand, is more of a tomboy and likes sports. They showed a clip during the interview from the new episode of Dave and Mike talking. Dave was trying to convince Mike to join their band and was being pretty aggressive about it (what else is new?). Before he left, James took a bunch of free-throws on the set. For each basket he made, a donation was made to Cancer research. Overall, a great interview. Tune in today to see Dana Delany on the same show.

And now…. the Actor/Character of the week. I give the prize to Dana Delany as Katherine simply for the scene she had with Bree where she reads Bree the riot act over drinking. The passion and anger in her delivery were spot on and she showed a real strength and spark we haven’t been able to see much of this season from her. I also loved the way she responded to Orson’s plea to get a chance to prove himself. “Honey… working for Bree, you won’t last a few months.” So true. And the delivery of that line was perfect. A nice mix of confidence, sympathy and just plain bluntness. Kudos to Marc Cherry and company for keeping her around. Well, that’s it for today. Take care and I’ll see y’all next time with some great quotes!

Actor/Character of the Week

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

It’s kind of hard for me to pick someone this time as they were so many great moments and such great acting this week. Still… I do keep coming back to someone I gave the title to before: Neal McDonough (Dave Williams).

Neal has been bringing a lot of creepiness to this role and seems to be reveling in it. It kind of reminds of me of when David Boreanez would play Angelus on ANGEL. He just seems to have so much fun with it, you can’t help but like him in the part. Dave has been working things perfectly so far to get whatever end result he’s looking for. No matter who he talks to, he seems to have this crazy ability to get them to see things his way and do what he wants them to do. It’s a bit uncanny and could’ve been painful to watch if Neal didn’t have such charisma himself. He’s believable as this guy everyone defers to whether they want to or not. When he let Edie buy that house, you knew it wasn’t about making Edie happy… he just wanted to get Mike in the band and he knew this was a way to do it. Sneaky…

Honorable mention goes to Nicollette Sheridan this week. While seeing Edie in the premiere being so deferential was kind of amusing, I’d glad to see she has some of that old spunk and sass still when she asks Dave if he’s going to yell at her again. Nicollette’s doing a great job of keeping the old Edie alive to some extent while showing how she’s changed over the years. It can’t be a easy balancing act, that’s for sure.

Actress/Character of the Week

Monday, October 13th, 2008

. Good morning everyone! So, how was everyone’s weekend? I hope you made it a good one and got the chance to see the new episode last night. In case you didn’t, though, I’ll be sharing a recap later. For now? I wanna talk about my pick for actress and character of the week: Eva Longoria/Gabrielle Solis.

This was Eva’s episode and she knew it. Every moment she was on screen, she made the most of. There were two plots for her this week, which I’ll go in a little more detail about in the recap: One…. a feud with Susan over parenting issues. Another is when she ends up buying a used car and has to stand up for herself when it turns out to be a lemon. She does it all in classic Gabby fashion, not letting anyone get the best of her. Personally, I wonder why people even try. I mean, let’s face it: this is freaking Gabrielle Solis. You just don’t mess with her and expect to not get burned a little.

One of the best moments she had, though, was during a more serious moment with Susan when she’s talking about the fact she’d rather Juanita be a bully than a victim. You could really see the love and concern she has the girls and a softer side of Gabby, something she tries not to show much. I know Eva gets some grief on fans boards here and there for not being all that good, but I think this episode proves them wrong and I’d love to see her get some recognition when awards season comes back around.

Well, that’s it. See ya later for the recap! I’ve also got some cool news about James to share tomorrow, as well as favorite quotes and other stuff, so don’t miss it! Til, then- take care!

Actor/Actress of the Week…

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Good morning, everyone!! Since the new episode is coming up in just a couple of days, I thought I would share my picks for the actors and characters that really stole the show this week: Neal McDonough as Dave Williams and Kathryn Joosten as Karen McClusky.

Karen’s had much more of a role this season and I am loving it so far. She’s always been a fun character with a sharp wit and bold personality. She’s really being able to showcase that this year, especially in her first scene with Dave. She is brash and unapologetic about the jokes she made to Edie, because they always made those jokes and she wasn’t going to be made to feel like she’s a bad person for it. I loved it. Still… she really won me over by simultaneously being able to play very vulnerable and scared when she realized it must’ve been Dave who took her cat. The best part of it all, though, was she showed that strong side again later by being proactive and basically forcing herself into Kathryn Mayfair’s house to get the dirt on this guy. No sitting and waiting for the ax to fall for her and I adore her for it.

Dave, meanwhile, was seriously creepy this week by blackmailing Karen to apologize like that. Neal really owns the part and made me actually worry briefly about the well-being of that cat! I have full confidence that Dave would’ve done away with him if Karen had not done what he said and I’m looking forward to seeing what he pulls next time someone makes Edie pout.

Actresses of the Week!!

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Good morning, everyone!! Now that the new season is here, I’m bringing back my Actor/Actress of the week picks. It’s my way of spotlighting the actor(s)/actress(es) that I thought really stole the show each week. This week, it was pretty tough. Everyone did really well and I loved the stories going on. Still, there was one scene in particular where the people involved really got my attention.

Marcia Cross out and about.

Marcia Cross out and about.

The flashback scene where Danielle takes her baby back was one of the most surprising ones to me and it was well-acted by both Joy Lauren and Marcia Cross. You could just see the pain and desperation radiating off of Bree while begging Danielle not to go through with it. The follow up scene where Bree’s business is called her baby makes it even more moving to me, cause you could see that was so true. She threw herself into the work to make up for the new hole in her life. I’m just waiting to see how Bree explained the disappearance of “her” child to all the non-housewife neighbors.

Joy Lauren at the Madden 09 Premiere Party.

Joy Lauren at the Madden 09 Premiere Party.

Joy Lauren was also really good in the scene. She managed to show that while the character had grown up, she hadn’t really grown at all as a person. She still is selfish and cold, and didn’t really seem to have much concern for Bree. The cold way she said “you’re just gonna have to find someone else” was chilling to me. I’m just wondering why she’d want the baby back. Despite everything she said in the flashback, she jumped at the chance to be baby-less and fancy free in Florida.

So, there you have it: my two picks for the actresses who really stole the show for me, Marcia Cross and Joy Lauren. See y’all next time. Take care!
