Hello again!! Is everyone ready for the weekend (and new episode)? I know I am! Before I head out, though, I have a couple headlines for you. One has to do with the Emmy Awards.
Now, I know the awards season hasn’t been the kindest to the show this year, but there’s still a chance for the show to take home some nice statues and a change in rules just might help do it. The Emmy Awards have decided that there are just too many good shows and actors out there and something has to be done. Their solution? Having six nominees instead of five this year in ten different categories. They include: Best Drama Series, Best Comedy Series, Lead Actress in a Comedy/Drama Series and Lead Actor in a Comedy/Drama. This could both help and hurt the show, in my opinion. It will surely help by giving them one more chance to be nominated, but it’ll also just make the competition stiffer (and any individual’s odds of winning smaller). Personally, I think they could’ve helped by not nominating the same people each year (especially when they’ve already won multiple times or their shows just aren’t that great).
In other news, I’ve got some casting scoop for you. If you don’t wanna know, how about heading over here instead? For the rest of you… read on: (more…)
Good morning, everyone!! I thought today I’d give you a quick update on the latest developments with SAG. Yesterday, the board decided to get rid of the chief negotiator, Doug Allen. He used to negotiate deals for the National Football League and had been working with SAG since 2006. Naturally, not everyone is happy about this move… namely, the union’s President, Allen Rosenberg. He feels like this has really hurt the democratic process in SAG. Others, meanwhile are seeing this as a great thing that may actually get a deal in place soon. We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out. Personally, I love this move and agree that fresh voices might just get the job done. I think Rosenberg was being a bit greedy and pushy and most of the union (and the people they’re negotiating with) sees it. You can see the whole story here.
Meanwhile, ABC , Marc and the cast are celebrating today. They got nominated at the 20th annual GLAAD awards. I don’t see any information about what specific awards they were nominated for, but when I find it, I’ll let you know. Speaking of Awards… I have a few pictures to share with you from the SAG awards a few days back. Here are Eva and Teri separately.
And here is Marcia and Nicollette in a shot together. I can’t find anything about Felicity, though. I think everyone looks great for the most part, except I’m kinda wondering what Teri was thinking in choosing that dress. So, do you agree with that? Are you happy about the SAG situation? Comment and let me know! Til next time, take care.
Good morning, again. Ok, is it just me or does someone have it out for Desperate Housewives lately? I heard they were totally shut out of the Golden Globe awards this nomination cycle, which is odd, considering how well the season has been received by the critics and viewers. Late last night I was reading the news sites and found out that the SAG awards nominations were announced and I see they only got one nod.
The category is Comedy Series Cast and the competition seems tough. They’re up against the casts of 30 Rock, Entourage, The Office and Weeds. I can’t comment personally on the quality of the competition, because I haven’t seen any of these shows. Still, they get a lot of buzz and seem to be popular so I think the show may have a tough road to the win.
I think if there is any justice, they’ll win it on just Marcia and Eva alone. They have been brilliant this year on the comedy front. Especially Eva. It seems like she’s much better (and more comfortable) at trying to get a laugh than making us wipe away the tears. Marcia? Well, she’s great in my opinion either way.
So what does everything think about the lack of Housewives love so far this awards season? Is it fair? Do you think the nominating committees are crazy? Post your thoughts in the comments section and let’s dish about it. Have a great weekend and I’ll see y’all again on Monday!
Good morning, everyone! It’s Monday, which means time for another week of dish. Don’t worry…. recap will come later, followed by my normal post-episode posts that will start tomorrow. I wanted to share a little news with y’all first.
First off- The contract negotiations (yes, this are still going on!) Apparently, the board of SAG has voted to allow it’s members to vote on whether or not they will strike should an agreeable deal not be made pretty soon. They’ve also demanded a mediator to handle negotiations and hopefully get a deal finalized. I’m confused on a couple things here. First, what sane actor would vote to strike after the disaster that was the Writer’s walk-out? California and the Industry is still recovering from that. Add in a shaky economy overall and I don’t see them voting to stop working. Besides… how bad could this deal the producers offered be? AFTRA, the Directors Guild and the WGA all agreed to it ages ago. I’ll keep ya posted on any new developments there.
Some good news for the set of Housewives today. I just read they’ve been nominated for awards at the annual “National Television Awards” in the UK. It’s a fan-voted show that is the most well-known of it’s kind there. Ugly Betty was also nominated. Keep checking back, as I’ll be sure to let you know if the show wins anything. You can check out the website and cast your vote here.
Finally… speaking of websites, ABC has really gone all out for the show this year. They have virtual tours of Wysteria Lane where you can go inside the ladies’ houses and even find clues to the new season. My computer’s really slow, so I haven’t tried the tour yet. I’ve seen comments from other fans who’ve visited, though, and they’re pretty good. One thing they mentioned- beware of Katherine’s kitchen. Apparently it’s so yellow, it’s blinding. Well, that’s all for now. Take care and see y’all later for the recap!
Hey, everyone!! So, did anyone watch the Emmys this weekend? I didn’t get a chance to, but I did find some cute clips from the red carpet. This first one is Teri Hatcher talking with Lisa Rinna of the TVGuide Channel. Yet again, the whole cat fight issue gets mentioned (in a kind of joking way) because all 6 of the housewives were on stage during the show to present an award. Teri assured them none of that would happen. She couldn’t promise, however, no one would trip over their dresses. So what’s the verdict guys? Did she make the right dress choice? I’m saying yes. I think this yellow really works with her.
Now, we have Eva. She and Tony spoke with TV Guide as well. She talked about ending up late last time and missing the red carpet. I wonder, though why Lisa brought up the same question about them presenting. Teri already mentioned they’d all be on stage. Seems she could’ve used her time with Eva a little differently. Ah well. Speaking of things that could’ve been different… what is that dress Eva’s wearing? I don’t get it at all and she’s definitely not wearing that to combat all the pregnancy rumors still flying. Speaking of Eva… I was informed by someone that this company has designed a phone specially for Eva as an Emmy gift. It has her husband’s name and jersey number on it. Just go to the link and click on their photo galleries to see it. It’s kinda cute. Other guests got these as well, but the “Parker” one was given to her only.
Finally… Kathryn Joosten was recently interviewed about her win for best guest star and proved again why I like her so much. She refused to be considered in any other category cause she didn’t feel it would be right for her to try for anything other than guest star, as that is what her contract has her as. She also joked about how it’s a good thing she won, since now her two sons don’t have to fight over who will get her 2005 Emmy when she passes. There is one for each now. Of course, she still thinks they might disagree about who will get which one. She’s got a great sense of humor about her. Well, I guess that’s all for now. Check back tomorrow, cause I’ll be posting a cool photo of them onstage. Until then, take care!
Good morning everyone!! Can you believe it’s Friday finally? Pretty soon, we’ll all be heading out of the office and off to do our own thing for a couple days. In case you need a little help getting through those last few hours, though, check this out:
The Housewives are over all TV as always in roles from before they were on the show. One of them is “Living in Fear” with Marcia Cross. She plays a woman that travels with her husband to his hometown, only to discover he’s got some secrets. But then again, this is a Lifetime movie so what else were you expecting? Seriously, though? I love these things. They’re so cheesy and bad at times, they’re good. If you wanna check it out, set those VCS or DVRs! It airs on the 22nd at 3:50 PM on Lifetime Movie Network.
Speaking of Lifetime movies… here’s a good one for you: “Baby For Sale”. It features Dana Delany in a story about a couple who end up mixed up with baby brokers. From what I remember, it’s not that old of a movie, either and is also available on DVD. It airs on Lifetime at 1PM on the 22nd.
I know Lifetime movies aren’t everyone’s thing. If you’re more a Sci-Fi fan, check out the repeats on X-Files airing on the 24th at 4PM on the Sci Fi channel. It features Felicity Huffman as a guest star. Not sure what role she’s playing, but this should be interesting.
Well, that’s it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again on Monday. And don’t forget, there’s only 10 more days until the Season 5 premiere on ABC. Also, the Housewives will be appearing on the Emmy Awards on the 21st. To tide you over, here’s a sneak peak that’s been released:
Felicity, Felicity, Felicity… I’m trying to maintain the love. Really, I am. But you’re making it pretty hard. I recently saw a quote from here where she repeats Eva’s “not pregnant, just fat” line. Now, I know constant rumors about females being pregnant probably get a bit annoying in Hollywood. After all, it’s a woman’s business when she decides to announce her pregnancy, or even if she makes an announcement at all. Still, wasn’t there a better answer than this? Let me repeat what I said when Eva said this before: Eva Longoria is not fat. Even with the extra weight, she’s not even in the same universe as fat. In a world where the 90210 girls are supposedly having an intervention for being way too skinny and actresses are constantly dropping pounds until they resemble skeletons, we really shouldn’t be throwing comments around like that, even as a joke. How about a simple “not pregnant and that’s the last time this is being discussed” instead, hmm? Or just don’t respond to the questions at all. That’ll really drive the reporters nuts.
Ok, I’m stepping off the soapbox now. Sorry about that… the issue just really bugs me. In better news, guess who won at the Creative Arts Emmys? Kathryn Joosten! She won the award for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy”. Congrats to her!! She definitely deserves it. I love her portrayal of McClusky… I think she makes her more sympathetic or likeable then the character might normally be. Even in Karen’s earlier, grumpier days. Well, I guess that’s about it for now. See y’all next time with more dish about our favorite show. Take care!
Good morning, everyone! I hope you’re all doing well this morning and ready for some more good news about our favorite show. Remember awhile back when Desperate Housewives didn’t get much love from the Emmys? Well, that’s about to change some. Marcia Cross, Dana Delany, Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria, Teri Hatcher and Nicollette Sheridan are scheduled to take part in the show. They’ll be presenting something together during the ceremony.
There’s no word on what category or segment the girls are scheduled for, but here’s what is known. The show is going to air live on September 21st on ABC. It will be held at the NOKIA Theatre in LA and air from 8 to 11 PM eastern time. For those of you who were paying attention, that’s only one week before the new season starts. Not a bad way to kick things off, huh?
Eva and Teri have both had some awards show experience lately. Eva produced and hosted the ALMAs and Teri took part in the TV Land Awards over the show’s hiatus. Speaking of Eva at the ALMAs…. did anyone see pictures of the event? It’s insane…. she must’ve had about 10 costume changes during the night. I posted one of them yesterday. Here are a couple more:
Here’s one of my favorite dresses she wore. What can I say? I love simple black dresses. There’s a reason these never go out of style.
And this one shows Eva performing onstage during the event with Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas. I love the expressions on their faces… they look like they’re having the time of their lives. Well, I’d better be going now. Catch y’all again on Monday with new news and recaps. Have a great weekend!
So, we’ve been having a lot of talk about Felicity lately on the blog. Get ready to hear one more story (I’ll move on to someone else in a minute… I promise!) Felicity recently gave an interview to the New York Daily News where she discussed how she got her part on the show. For anyone who might not know, Felicity was frazzled herself with three kids. She had gone straight from dealing with two screaming ones to her audition. She apparently looked bad enough that the producers thought she was the one right away. She adds that when she admitted some less than wonderful feelings about motherhood, many of the women around “pulled back from me as if I said ‘I eat babies’.” Nice, huh?
Now, as promised, let’s move on. This time, there’s a story out on Eva Longoria. She admits that she hates kissing scenes in her shows and movies. She hates the idea of kissing a man who’s not her husband so much, so tries to talk directors into letting her character hug someone instead. They, of course, don’t go for it. She says that her on-screen husband feels the same way about kissing scenes. Must make for some awkward moments on set. On a related note, it’s hard to believe it’s been a year now since she and Tony Parker were married. Time flies, huh?
Well, that’s about all for today. I’ll see you guys tomorrow, as always, to dish some more about our favorite show.
Good morning and happy Monday! I know, I know… let’s try to forget that, huh? Anyway… I’m back to dish some more about our favorite show and maybe make that first day back at work go a little faster.
It’s overall been pretty quite on the Housewives front lately, but I do have some Eva news to report today. First off… looks like Eva has decided to be the anti-diva and take her name out of consideration for the ALMA awards. This isn’t a Kathryn Heigl moment here… Eva just wanted newcomers to be acknowledged instead. Plus, since she’s executive producer and involved in the balloting and all, she was quote as saying she felt that made her being a nominee a conflict of interest. Good for her on that. It does get tiring at times to see the same old faces up for the same awards all the time. And frankly, some people are just getting nominated on their name or show alone.
Eva Longoria-Parker and Ricardo Antonio Chavira at Beso's opening in March.
In other Eva news, you all remember when she opened up that restaurant called Beso? Well, apparently, it was such a success that the rumor mill has her in talks to open a branch in Las Vegas. Look out, everyone. She’s slowly moving towards world domination! Seriously, though… it’ll be interesting to see how Beso is received outside LA. I’ll keep ya posted as any new developments are announced.
Finally… TVGuide posted this interview with Kathryn Joosten. According to the description, she’s going to spill a little about the new season. Based on that and a couple comments some people on another forum made, my spoiler-phobe self decided not to watch. For the rest of you who love spoilers, enjoy!!
Well, I guess that’s about it for today. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow!
Wysteria Lane got some Latin flavor yesterday. I’m sure y’all remember that I mentioned Eva was going to be hosting and executive producing the ALMAs again this year. Usually, when an awards ceremony is having their nominations press conference, they hold it an auditorium or some other similar place. Not the ALMAs! Yesterday, Eva and others involved in the show set up shop right on Wysteria Lane to fill the press in on what they’ve got planned this year. Here is a picture from the event. Eva is standing with actor Christian de la Fuente.
So, this is what we know: as mentioned, Eva is host and the show will take place on August 17th at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium and will air on September 12th from 8Pm to 10 PM eastern time on ABC. Besides Eva, The Black Eyed Peas, America Ferrera, Carlos Mencia, Jessica Alba and more are confirmed to be taking part in the show. They also plan to give special awards to Linda Ronstandt, Shakira and Narciso Rodriquez. From the looks of that line-up, this is going to be one hot show. I’m looking forward to seeing how Eva does as well as seeing the Black Eyed Peas and Shakira.
The ALMA awards will also kickstart the annual Hispanic Heritage Month, where the culture and contributions of the Latin Community are recognized. ALMA stands for the American Latino Media Arts Awards and means “soul” or “spirit” in Spanish. Well, that’s about it for now… are you going to be tuning in on the 17th to see our Gabby in action? Looking forward to anything specific in the show? Sound off in the comments, I’d love to know! Til next time, take care!
Good morning, everyone!! Hope you’re all doing well and ready for some news! There’s quite a few things to mention today.
First off…. the latest in “As the Contract Negotiations Stall”, otherwise known as the SAG/Producers negotiations. And what a Soap it’s turned out to be. As you may remember, SAG presented a counter-offer to the Producers final offer and talks broke off. Well, now the producers agreed to meet with SAG at the union’s request to hear whatever they want to say. There is a positive to this, however. No one is talking a walkout and some productions that were put on hold for fear of a strike just might start up again any time now. Is this thing ever going to get resolved? I feel like I’m watching a never-ending tennis match…
In a much more decisive move, guess who just got cast? The Scavo kids. The announcement came late yesterday. Joshua Moore is going to play oldest kid Parker, while the juvie-bound twins will be played by Charles and Max Carver. Youngest Scavo Penny will be played by Kendall Applegate. No word yet on who gets to be Maynard Delfino and Benjamin Hodge. Also up in the air is that adorable kid we saw in Gabby’s future. Word is she may be recast as some viewers felt she looked to old for the part. I’ll let you know as soon as any info comes out.
As for the other cast…. Eva Longoria has been making quite a few headlines lately. The rumor mill is saying she’s pregnant, but Eva denies this. She says any extra pounds are thanks to her part on Housewives. Apparently, Gabby really let herself go. While she’s at it, Eva also got a haircut recently to add to the frumpy new look for her character.
Finally…. I give you the Emmy Nominees! Polly Bergen (more on her tomorrow) and Kathryn Joosten both got nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series category. The costume designers and hair stylists also got nominated for awards this year for the episode “In Buddy’s Eyes”, so there’s four in total. Sorry to see the main ladies aren’t nominated anywhere, but what can ya do? Well, I’m out of here. Take care and see ya next time!
Good morning! After seeing a preview last night for the new season showing the gang 5 years later, I got to thinking about what the future might hold for some other current and former residents….
Betty Applewhite is still living in Chicago and ends up meeting a famous media mogul named Karen who once lived on the Lane. Once they discover this common link, they bond over how insane everyone there is and become best buddies. Betty even gets to be on TV with her as a sidekick.
After having framed Paul for her murder, Felicia is still living it up in her quiet cabin where she regularly reads papers to keep up with what’s going on on the Lane. After finding out Paul was paroled, she hires someone to track him down and, being the crazy woman she is, follows him and continues to drive him crazy from a distance. She does such a good job, he eventually gets dragged into a mental hospital ranting about the “dead” woman who is harrassing him. Felicia is finally satisfied.
Mrs. McClusky, having had enough of the Scavo kids bad behavior, quits as their babysitter and moves to a beach house in Florida. After enduring a few hurricanes, she decides the Scavo kids are a better alternative and rushes back.
Danielle decides to cash in on her mom’s newfound fame by threatening to write a tell-all book unless Bree agrees to keep her in designer clothes and jewelry. Bree enlists Karl to go and issue yet another smackdown and Danielle drops the whole thing.
Speaking of Karl… he’s still with Ms. Perfect and continues to push Susan’s buttons and make her feel like a loser. Little Maynard miraculously has survived to see his school years despite Susan’s klutziness and has already started to assume the “Julie” role.
So what do you all think is in store for these and other characters we’ve seen over the years? Share your thoughts in the comments… I’d love to see. In other Housewives news, Marc Cherry will be participating in a panel discussion during the TCA Summer Press Tour. That will be held on the 17th at 2PM. A Desperate Houswives Panel featuring Felicity, Teri, Eva, Marcia, Nicollette, Dana and Marc will be held the same day at 5PM. As details are released, I’ll be sure to share! By the way… the Emmy nominees will be announced that same day at 5AM. Good luck to the cast!
I’ll leave you today with a look at a fan-made promo courtesy of Youtube. It’s kinda cool and should tide us over a bit until the official ones start coming out. I saw one last night and it looked good, but isn’t available anywhere. Based on it, though, I think this new season is gonna be good. The cast has obviously been hard at work to have a promo ready this fast. Well, that’s all for now. See ya next time!
Hello, out there! There is so much to catch up on in my absence, I barely know where to start! I guess let’s get the latest out of the way, shall we? First all, there’s Felicity Huffman. She’s going to be one of the lucky few to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2009. Each year, 25 people in all are scheduled to get one, including John Stamos (Full House/ER), William Petersen(CSI) and Harry Shearer (The Simpsons). Go her… this seems to be a big year for her getting honors. Not only did she get that award at the Maui Film Festival, she’s also been put on the Emmy short list.
Speaking of the Emmys… Desperate Housewives was not put on the short list for best series, so there will be no nod for the show this award season. However, Felicity, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria were. Very notably missing is Teri Hatcher. The ladies will be going against Tina Fey, America Ferrera, Christina Applegate, Mary-Louise Parker, Sarah Silverman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Anna Friel for a nomination and possible Emmy win. Good luck to the Wysteria gang… they had a great year.
Finally, my childhood is getting defiled more each day. Remember Mario Lopez from Saved by the Bell? Well, he wants you to! The former Saturday morning star who is now more famous for his womanizing and not-so-nice ways has struck again! This time, he’s talking to the press about how he is upset he and Eva Longoria never got together. He said they have known each other for years, but never hooked up because they were never both single at the same time. Like that’s stopped him before… He goes on to say that he’s jealous of Tony Parker and he’s a “lucky guy”. Ain’t he a peach? I wonder how Mr. Parker feels about this sudden development.
Well, I’m out of here. I’ll be back with some casting tidbits later. For now… take care!
He’s the ex-husband we love to hate, Karl Mayer. Over the past few years, Richard Burgi has been an important part of the show and Susan’s character development. Now, he’s in demand elsewhere, too! You guys might remember me telling you about his appearance on the show Reaper. He played a trouble making womanizer who kept escaping from Hell. His new role is a bit more “normal”.
It’s been announced that he will be guest starring on the FX series Nip/Tuck. He’ll be playing a character named Logan Ayers. Logan’s a suave plastic surgeon who is a bit… shall we say OCD in the bedroom. There’s no word yet on when the episode will be airing, but he’s reportedly already completed one day of filming. He’ll be going back for another day of work on the 23rd.
I’ve personally never watched the show, but I’m curious to see his episode. He’s been really enjoyable in the few parts I’ve seen him in so far. He can pull off being a jerk while still being likeable somehow, a very tough thing to do.
Here’s a little example of that…. a scene from the episode where Susan goes to Lamaze class and ends up running into Karl:
I don’t know whether to smack him or shake his hand… how about you? I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on the character as well. By the way… before I leave, I’d like to direct you to a fellow blogger’s latest post regarding the Emmys. Less than a month to go before we find out who was nominated for what. Good luck to the Housewives cast and I’ll see you all on Monday with recaps, news and more.
