Desperate Housewives

Hello, out there! There is so much to catch up on in my absence, I barely know where to start! I guess let’s get the latest out of the way, shall we? First all, there’s Felicity Huffman. She’s going to be one of the lucky few to get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2009. Each year, 25 people in all are scheduled to get one, including John Stamos (Full House/ER), William Petersen(CSI) and Harry Shearer (The Simpsons). Go her… this seems to be a big year for her getting honors. Not only did she get that award at the Maui Film Festival, she’s also been put on the Emmy short list.

Speaking of the Emmys… Desperate Housewives was not put on the short list for best series, so there will be no nod for the show this award season. However, Felicity, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria were. Very notably missing is Teri Hatcher. The ladies will be going against Tina Fey, America Ferrera, Christina Applegate, Mary-Louise Parker, Sarah Silverman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Anna Friel for a nomination and possible Emmy win. Good luck to the Wysteria gang… they had a great year.

Finally, my childhood is getting defiled more each day. Remember Mario Lopez from Saved by the Bell? Well, he wants you to! The former Saturday morning star who is now more famous for his womanizing and not-so-nice ways has struck again! This time, he’s talking to the press about how he is upset he and Eva Longoria never got together. He said they have known each other for years, but never hooked up because they were never both single at the same time. Like that’s stopped him before… He goes on to say that he’s jealous of Tony Parker and he’s a “lucky guy”. Ain’t he a peach? I wonder how Mr. Parker feels about this sudden development.

He’s the ex-husband we love to hate, Karl Mayer. Over the past few years, Richard Burgi has been an important part of the show and Susan’s character development. Now, he’s in demand elsewhere, too! You guys might remember me telling you about his appearance on the show Reaper. He played a trouble making womanizer who kept escaping from Hell. His new role is a bit more “normal”.

It’s been announced that he will be guest starring on the FX series Nip/Tuck. He’ll be playing a character named Logan Ayers. Logan’s a suave plastic surgeon who is a bit… shall we say OCD in the bedroom. There’s no word yet on when the episode will be airing, but he’s reportedly already completed one day of filming. He’ll be going back for another day of work on the 23rd.

I’ve personally never watched the show, but I’m curious to see his episode. He’s been really enjoyable in the few parts I’ve seen him in so far. He can pull off being a jerk while still being likeable somehow, a very tough thing to do.

Here’s a little example of that…. a scene from the episode where Susan goes to Lamaze class and ends up running into Karl:

I don’t know whether to smack him or shake his hand… how about you? I’d love to hear other people’s thoughts on the character as well. Good morning, everyone! Today, I have a couple different things in store, so let’s get to it!

It’s that time again. Awards season will soon be upon us and the Housewives are getting ready by submitting their Emmy clips. Marcia Cross submitted “Now You Know”, the season premiere. This is the episode where Bree finds herself having a very hard time keeping up her fake pregnancy. Especially when Ida Greenberg accidently stabs Bree’s stomach with a fork during a barbeque.

Felicity Huffman submitted “Now I Know, Don’t Be Scared” for the voter’s consideration. This is the episode where Lynette gets a little crazy about a possum in her yard, associating the uninvited guest with the cancer that snuck its way into her life. She sees the animal dead just as she learns she is now cancer-free and breaks down.

Eva Longoria has submitted “In Buddy’s Eyes”. This is the episode where Gabrielle uses Carlos to get good parking. She ends up breaking down near the end from the emotional strain of dealing with her new life with a blind man.

Teri Hatcher picked “Hello, Little Girl” for her Emmy episode. This is the episode where it is revealed to Susan, Mike and Julie that Orson was the one who ran over Mike. Susan is furious and confronts Orson, but is talked out of reporting the incident by Mike himself.

Overall, these are very nice picks, ladies! Sorry there are no recaps up right now for them… these episodes all took place before I took over. I’ll be catching up on them, though, so stay tuned to read more detailed summaries of the episodes. And, of course, I’ll let y’all know how the Housewives fare come Emmy nomination time. In the meantime, enjoy some other recaps of this season.

Before I leave today, I wanna share a couple pictures of some Housewives couples I found. The first is of Eva Longoria and her husband, Tony Parker. They were spotted at a party celebrating the launch of the Ingenieur Automatic Edition Zinédine Zidane watch in Paris on the 16th of this month.

And here is former Housewife Alfre Woodard with her husband, Roderick Spencer. They were spotted at the Green Cross Millennium Awards on June 14th in Santa Monica. Aren’t both couples too cute?

Good morning, everyone! Well, it’s Monday and you know what that means. No, I’m not talking about heading back into the office. I mean, it’s time to dish about our favorite show! I hope you all had a great weekend and you’re ready to get down to business. I know I am!

First off, Marcia, Eva and Teri aren’t the only ones who have been out and about lately. Felicity Huffman traveled to the Islands to attend the 2008 Maui Film Festival. She was on hand to accept the Nova award in honor of her many TV, film and theatre roles. She also screened her latest movie, Phoebe in Wonderland. Felicity plays the mother of a young girl who has trouble following rules. That wasn’t all, though! Felicity also managed to squeeze in some fun in the sun with her husband and daughters. Gotta love the Macy family. They’re definitely on my list of favorite celebs for being so low-key and normal.

Anyway…. on another part of the Islands, a local TV station gave us some insight into one of the newest cast members: 6-year-old Kaili Say, who plays one of Gabby’s daughters. Kaili and her 10-year-old sister, Brandi, had spent months in LA doing print work in addition to small acting jobs and were about to go back home when the word came Kaili had won the part. Needless the say, the family has decided to stay put. Good luck to the Say family! It can be hard to be a kid in Hollywood.

Finally, Dana Delaney revealed in a recent interview that, barring an actor’s strike, the cast will be returning to work on July 7th. I was surprised to learn that Marc Cherry actually filled her in on what was up with her mystery before hand. I thought he was pretty secretive about that kind of stuff. She also assured all the Edie fans out there Nicollette will be back. Good to know Edie really does still have a place on the show. She’s fun.

Hello, everyone! I thought I’d take a break from the DVD talk and fill you guys in on some stuff going on with the cast. First up is Dougray Scott. You may remember him as Ian, the guy Susan was dating while Mike was in that coma. He may not be on the Lane anymore, but he’s still been pretty busy. He is currently starring in a remake of Jekyll and Hyde as the title character. It’s billed as a modern retelling of the classic story and airs on the ION network. You can catch it on June 6th at 7PM eastern time.

That’s not all He also stars in a remake of the 10 Commandments on the same channel. That will air on June 1st at 7 PM eastern. He’ll be playing the part of Moses. Still haven’t had enough? Catch him in Dark Water Boy on FX. That airs on June 2nd at 12 AM and 10 AM.

Now that her gig at Wendy’s is done, Eva is turning her attention to more glamorous duties. She’s going to be the host on the ALMA awards again. The ceremony is held every years to honor the best entertainers in the Latin community. She’s also going to be the show’s executive producer. It will be taped in August for broadcast in September. I’ll keep you updated as the show gets closer.

Finally, let’s take a look at the rumor mill, shall we? There are reports out there that Beyonce has been given a guest spot on the series and her father is hoping to make it into something more long-term. Is this for real? Time will tell and I’ll be here to pass along all the info as it is released. Well, that’s it for now. See you next time

I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday.  A weekend trip turned into a family emergency and we didn’t arrive home until yesterday evening.  It’s good to be back and scouring the headlines once again.  And you may have heard that the Primetime Emmy Awards were Sunday night.  The show might not have won, but the women looked fantastic.  As far as I can tell, Nicolette Sheridan wasn’t in attendance, but all the other women were and I found their dresses (save for Eva’s) all had a common theme.  They all looked very nice, as you can see below.  If you’d like to see each image larger, simply click on it.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced and there was a notable exception to the list:  “Desperate Housewives” was left off the list for Best Comedy for what might be the first time since the show first aired in 2004.  The only major award “Desperate Housewives” was nominated for, in fact, was for Felicity Huffman (which, all things said, BIG congrats for her because she definitely deserves it).  

Also left off the list for the most part is the critical and audience fave “Friday Night Lights”.  The Emmy’s had better watch it or they will find themselves becoming rapidly irrelevant in the eyes of the viewers.  And we all know, when it comes down to it, the viewers are ones who really run the show in Hollywood.  Just sayin’.

Last night was the 4th Annual Glamour Women of the Year awards.  I bet you didn’t know that. I bet you also didn’t know that Teri Hatcher won an award there.  Oh yes!  But not for her portrayal of Susan Meyer on “Desperate Housewives”.  She got the Writer of the Year award for her book, “Burnt Toast”.  The British awards featured mostly British recipients, which made Teri winning the award all the more significant.  I bet I can guess who will get Writer of the Year at next year’s awards, however.  Can anyone say J.K. Rowling?  Teri’s just lucky that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” comes out this year instead of last year.

All joking aside, congratulations to her.  I’ve heard some good things about her book (which I will admit I haven’t had a chance to read) and it’s got to be awesome to be recognized for her talent and hard work.  Way to go, Teri!

When I heard that Eva Longoria was hosting the Alma Awards, I will admit the first thing I thought was, “I wonder what she’ll wear?”  I needn’t have worried.  I should have realized she wouldn’t be wearing just one thing but MANY MANY things.  The Awards air tonight (check your local listings!) but were filmed over the weekend where Eva dazzled us with dance and with her many beautiful dresses.  Which is your favorite?

The Oscars don’t have much to do with television, so a lot of our favorites from “Desperate Housewives” weren’t in attendance. However, the parties had a few of our stars come out in their red carpet best. Marcia, of course, was busy elsewhere. Felicity put in an appearance at the Independent Spirit awards the day before, but not at any of the Oscar parties, unfortunately.

James Denton and his wife Erin O’Brien Denton showed up at Elton John’s big bash to benefit AIDS awareness. I don’t know what kind of car that is that they’re posing in front of, but it looks pretty hawt, don’t you think? I saw a quick interview with James last night as he arrived at the party and he seemed so happy to be invited and like he was a very big fan of Elton’s. Well… who isn’t?

Kyle MacLachlan and his wife Desiree Gruber showed up at the Vanity Fair party (which I heard was the best of the best, last night). I’m feeling a lot better about Orson on “Desperate Housewives” now that we know he’s not a psycho murderer so the feeling has transferred to Kyle as well. And he does look fine in a tux, doesn’t he?

Nicolette also showed up at the Vanity Fair bash with her main squeeze, Michael Bolton. I also caught a bit of an interview with them at the arrivals. She looked good in her dress, but I must admit she always seems to wear the same kind of dress. She doesn’t seem to try much new in the red carpet fashion arena. Slinky and revealing is her MO. But it works, right?

All in all, it must be fun to be able to just enjoy Oscar night, without having to worry about being nominated for an award or deal with much fanfare and hoopla. I think it’d be fun to be able to just get duded up and go out to one of the parties and rock the night away.

Our girls didn’t bring home any awards last night, but it didn’t prevent them from looking (mostly) fabulous in the process. Take Teri Hatcher for example. She looked absolutely stunning in her dress. Following the “white trend” from the Golden Globes, she went big-time glam and Old Hollywood and looked fantastic doing it.

Felicity Huffman, on the other hand, didn’t look as fabulous as I know she can. She almost looked, dare I say it, a little frumpy in her knee-length black dress. I just don’t think it was that great a style on her.

Eva Longoria, also, didn’t look that great in her dark grey gown. A very pretty dress, it might have looked better on someone a little taller as the folds of fabric just seemed to envelope poor Eva and make her look even shorter.

Brenda Strong was there and she looked really great in the same color. I did find there was something distracting about the neckline on her dress. It didn’t seem to match too well with the rest of the dress. But she’s a tall lady and was able to pull off the “pillar” look very well, overall.

Nicollette Sheridan was also there and looked about as you’d expect her to: Amazing. Michael Bolton must be a proud man. She also chose a lighter color, like Teri, but hers was more neutral in color. The neckline almost reminded me of something you’d find in the lingerie department. Combined with her sultry hairstyle, she looked very sexy.

Lastly, we have Andrea Bowen, who plays Teri Hatcher’s daughter Julie on the show. Wow, she’s growing up, isn’t she? She chose a coppery gown that complimented her skin and hair so nicely. She looked pretty fantastic as well, I thought. I almost didn’t recognize her when I first saw her.

Fashion “don’t’s” aside, all the ladies looked far better than I ever do even on my best of days. I’m sorry they didn’t win (and Felicity was ROBBED! Sorry, America Ferrera.), but I enjoyed watching the glamor. I just love awards season.

Our show didn’t win at last night’s Golden Globe awards. And I was truly dissappointed, especially with the winner for Best Actress in a Television Comedy. Maybe I just don’t get the whole “Ugly Betty” thing, but I didn’t feel America Ferrera should have beat out Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman for the win. I wasn’t sure “Desperate Housewives” would win for Best Television Comedy either, but if it didn’t I expected “The Office” to take the award. But no. It wasn’t to be. And, while it was nice to see the “Ugly Betty” people so excited and happy, I was still disappointed.

The good news is our girls looked FANTASTIC last night. Felicity gets my personal “Best Dressed” award as she looked absolutely stunning from her gorgeous hairstyle and makeup down to the train on her jewel-toned gown. Nicolette Sheridan and Eva Longoria were also in attendance, wearing subtle white and black respectively. Marcia was unable to make it, of course, due to the bed rest her doctor has put her on for the duration of her pregnancy. That’s a pity, because I would have loved to see what Mr. Blackwell’s “Fabulous Fashion Independent” would have worn to the show.

Felicity Huffman attended the People’s Choice Awards on Tuesday with her pal and co-star Eva Longoria (who went on to win Best Female Star on Television that night) and the two cut it up on the red-carpet together. Felicity had a great time teasing Eva about her low, low cut back on her glitzy dress. But Us Weekly’s Katrina Szis (contributing editor) sized up the fashion hits and misses on the red carpet and labeled Felicity as a “miss”.

She wears really plunging necklines that, Szish feels, aren’t flattering on her chest. The skirt should have been just to the knee, or full-length. It made her look matronly and unfashionable. She can be so sleek and sophisticated, but this dress was too girly for her.

However, about Eva she said:

In the past, she has had too many extensions or too much going on with the dress for Szish’s taste. This dress was simple in front and simple in back; her hair looked shiny. She was simple elegance, and finally got it right. She is always sexy but tends to overuse her accessories. She looked like a star, as opposed to a rising star.

Felicity has also been in the news, lamenting her character on “Desperate Housewives”. She says she misses the days when Lynette was a frumpy housewife and frazzled mom. She has been quoted as saying, “I wanted an example of motherhood that addressed the madness, depression, rage, loss, wonder and love. I do regret we’ve moved on from that because it’s so true - and there aren’t many examples of it on TV.” I definitely agree here. I always connected with the show and with Lynette because of her struggles and now it seems I have very little indeed in common with the women on Wisteria Lane.

This must be Felicity’s year! Not only has she been nominated for a Golden Globe but she’s now also nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series at the 13th Annual Screen Actor’s Guild Awards, which will be airing January 28th. Notable is the lack of a nomination for Marcia Cross (who was also nominated for a Golden Globe this year), as well as the other ladies. The rest of the ‘wives need not fret, however, because the cast has been nominated for Best Comedy Series Cast as well, an honor the show won at last years awards show. They’re up against some stiff competition from “Ugly Betty” and “The Office”, among others. Check out the full listing of nominees over at Yahoo! News. This year seems like a great year, competition wise. There are so many wonderful shows and movies out right now that make for some truly deserving winners. I couldn’t begin to pick the best!

I’d like to first off wish you all a belated Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. I was absent from the blog for a week, due to one of my children being uber-sick and also being out of town for the holidays. I’m back home now, and my child is on the mend, so back to reporting the “Desperate Housewives” news it is! There’s quite a few tasty bits to report, so sit down and get comfy while I get you all caught up.

• As I reported previously, Eva Longoria opened the Harrods Winter Sale in London on December 28th. She got first dibs on the deals, and reportedly spent a whopping #35,000 in a mere 90 minutes. She picked out designer handbags, shoes and coats, among other goodies. Lucky for her, she didn’t have to battle the crowds which had been lining up outside since 5am. Now that’s the way to shop!
• Eva also made news when rumors floated around about series creator Marc Cherry mentioning that Heather Mills (the soon-to-be ex-wife of Paul McCartney) would be an interesting addition to the next season of “Desperate Housewives”. Longoria, however, has different ideas. She thinks “it would be completely crazy” and would be offended if she was offered a part. Ouch!
• In Golden Globes news, Felicity Huffman will be one of the many presenters, having won a Globe herself last year. Look for her (and also see if she wins again for Best Actress in a Comedy Series) on the awards show airing Monday, January 15.
