Desperate Housewives

Marcia had recently stated that she wasn’t planning on getting pregnant ever again. She has her twins, safe and sound, despite bed-rest and other pregnancy related complications. Which is well and good, except now she’s going to have to be pregnant again, this time for “Desperate Housewives”. At least, that’s the word on the street. The actress visited The Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday and hinted coyly at her character’s return to the show in the show’s finale here in a couple weeks. She said, “I come back in a particular condition, which, sort of… I can’t really say.” But Letterman wasn’t going to let that drop and pressed the issue. Finally, he guessed that Bree would return to the show pregnant. Marcia was impressed at his guessing abilities and didn’t deny the claim. But she wanted to make it sure that she never spilled the beans herself. I suppose after Eva Longoria gave away some valuable plot points, that’s a sore subject on the set. Whoops!

But I gotta say, a pregnant Bree sounds like “Desperate” bliss to me!

In case you missed it, Marcia Cross was on “The View” yesterday! There, she talked quite a bit about her twins and the show. She talked about where she got the names Eden and Savannah and how she’d tried for many years on her own to get pregnant with no success. She also talked about having a c-section and how it wasn’t as easy as some people had led her to believe. Since a great deal of the women there had had c-sections (or watched someone have one, in the case of Rosie), there was some discussion about them. She also talked about returning to the show and her skin cancer awareness campaign with Oil of Olay. It’s so nice to see her in the media’s eye once again. I’m looking forward to getting Bree back on the show.

Also, catch this promo for this weeks episode, “Into the Woods”. Things aren’t looking so hot for Tom and Lynette, are they? Cue the nailbitting…. NOW!

After the headaches she’s given “Desperate Housewives” producers with her recent pregnancy and subsequent bed-rest and maternity leave, Marcia has promised the “powers that be” and creator Marc Cherry that she will not be getting pregnant again. She has said, “I promised him I wouldn’t (get pregnant), but you never know if there’s an adoption in the future.” So not necessarily saying no to anymore children, which is nice.

So when will she be back? She’ll return to the show for the season finale here in a couple weeks. What can she reveal about her return and the finale? “All I will say is it’s got something to do with pregnancy!” Hmm! Intriguing!

Felicity Huffman threw co-star and pal Eva Longoria a bridal shower at her Los Angeles home this past Sunday, inviting a huge amount of friends and family, including her other “Desperate Housewives” costars, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Brenda Strong and Nicolette Sheridan. All accounts show that the party was quite a success. At one point, Eva presided as judge over a competition where unmarried guests made wedding gowns out of toilet paper. Teri Hatcher won the grand prize, a tissue tiara. The theme was “Home”, obviously, as little pink houses served as centerpieces for the tables and Felicity requested that guests bring gifts for each room of their new home together. Felicity joked that she didn’t need to give a gift since she was the one throwing the shower. Uh, don’t think it works that way, Felicity.

I’ve waited so patiently, and now here it is: pictures of Marcia and her twins are in the newest issue of People Magazine, due to hit newsstands tomorrow. The first two things I noticed: 1) CUTE babies! Squee! and 2) how happy Marcia looks. She’s positively glowing with it. And the interview is simply heartwarming. Marcia and her new husband, Tom Mahoney, both wanted children so badly that they had in vitro fertilization done one week after their wedding. So in a way, the twins Eden and Savannah are sort of like honeymoon babies, right? And is it as good as she hoped for all those years?

“I wanted to be a member of that club so badly, and now I’m in and it’s so much better than I even imagined.”

Marcia Cross left the house the other day with her husband Tom Mahoney just two weeks after giving birth to twin daughters. I saw these pictures over on the “Desperate Housewives” blog at b5media and I just had to share them with you all. Doesn’t Marcia look fantastic? She honestly doesn’t look like she’s just given birth to two girls. She looks maybe a little tired (the sunglasses are a dead giveaway), and maybe a little tender still (the way she’s holding onto her husband’s arm). But shoot, who wouldn’t be?? Hopefully this means we’ll get to see pictures of the twins pretty soon. I also can’t help but wonder if this means Marcia will be ready to return to “Desperate Housewives” soon or if she’s out for the rest of the season. I’m sure this will come as no surprise whatsoever to anyone who either a) given birth b) been pregnant with twins and/or c) been on bedrest: Marcia Cross was very anxious to deliver her twins. After a month on doctor-enforced bedrest, Marcia was through with the whole “being pregnant” thing and wanted to have her babies in her arms. A source close to the family told People Magazine, “By the end she was definitely tired of being in bed!” Also? Marcia is nothing like Bree Van de Kamp. She’s far more laid back than her TV personna. “The family is home, and it’s all mellow and happy there.” Co-star Brenda Strong backed up that assessment, saying “She’ll be an easy-going mom. I don’t see her stressing at all.”

The month of May is Skin Cancer Awareness month and each year Oil of Olay picks a spokeswoman that will help spread the word of the dangers of skin cancer, as well as educate about protection and prevention. This year, that spokeswoman is Marcia Cross. She will be at the forefront of a nationwide cancer screening initiative and help educate Americans on how to detect skin cancer and prevent it.

“I’m proud to be part of a cause that is near and dear to my heart,” explains actress Marcia Cross. “Having had two family members suffer from melanoma, I’ve come to understand the importance of skin cancer detection and prevention. Knowing what I know about the dangers of sun exposure, I take extra care to protect myself with a large hat, sunglasses, daily UV protection, and of course, an annual screening.”

Another benefit of this initiative, if you take a friend with you to a participating dermatologist to get screened during the months of May, June or July, the screening will be free for both of you. Marcia Cross has given birth to her twins! The fraternal twin girls were born yesterday (wow, I’m slow on the news, aren’t I?) in Los Angeles. The names are Eden and Savannah, two very, very lovely choices. The twins weren’t due to show up until April, but considering that multiple pregnancies are less likely to go to term and Marcia has been on bedrest for several weeks now, their early appearance isn’t that shocking or unusual. Marcia’s rep Heidi Slan says that mother and daughters are all doing well. I can’t wait to see the pictures, can you? Congrats to Marcia and her husband, Tom Mahoney!

Judging from her “Desperate Housewives” character, one would think that Eva Longoria wouldn’t be embarrassed by much, especially anything of a sexual nature. But that’s not so, according to an interview with British radio station, Heart. “It’s really amazing what they got away with. When I watched it I was like, ‘What the? Whoa!’ I watched them filming that scene, but when I watched it back I was shocked. We got to get really graphic with that episode.” I know what she means. When I watched, I was surprised at just what they DID show. I kept expecting the scene to get cut short, but it kept going. What did you think?

In other “Eva News”, she appears in an upcoming issue of men’s magazine, Arena wearing little more than the skin on her back. In the risque pictures, she’s photographed wrapped in chains. Provocative!

While I’m sure everyone on the set of “Desperate Housewives” would rather have Marcia Cross there with them and not relegated to bed-rest, there’s at least one cast-member who perhaps a little glad for her confinement. That would be James Denton. We all know how Marcia’s doctors ordered her to bed-rest for the rest of her pregnancy and about how the show’s production scrambled to turn Marcia’s home into a replica of Bree’s Wisteria Lane home so they could film a few more scenes. But Marcia’s hasty departure from the set means there’s room for other stories to take her place. That’s where James comes in. Marc Cherry decided to make some storyline changes and speed some things up. Says Denton, “Because we’re losing Marcia mid-season, that mystery has to wrap up pretty quickly because we need her. So, it’s kind of fun, because it got me out of jail quicker!” Good for you, James. Way to find the silver lining there.

Marcia is just all over the news today, isn’t she? Apparently, according to a TV Guide news article, Marcia Cross has been placed on bedrest for the duration of her pregnancy. Her twins aren’t due until April, however, being put on bedrest isn’t unusual in a multiples pregnancy particularly if the mother is a little older as Marcia is. However, even though Marcia was only going to be filming two more episodes of “Desperate Housewives” before going on maternity leave, this definitely puts a crinkle in the plans for the show. Producers are actually moving the show to Marcia’s West Los Angeles home for a couple of days at the end of this week to shoot a few important scenes.

While Cross is resting upstairs in bed, the Housewives team will be downstairs transforming the home she moved into just months ago into a likeness of Bree’s orderly abode. “They are painting the walls, moving in props and furniture from the set…,” says a source from the set. “They’re basically making Marcia’s house into Bree’s.”

Wow, if the Mohammed can’t come to the mountain, the mountain will come to Mohammed! Best of luck to Marcia for the rest of her pregnancy, I hope she’s getting spoiled rotten. I wonder if this will impact her appearance at the Golden Globes this coming Sunday (she’s nominated). This might solve her evening wear dilemma after all!

The famous Mr. Richard Blackwell has published his 47th annual Worst Dressed list and guess who got mentioned as one of only 10 “Fashion Fabulous Independents”? Our own, lovely Marcia Cross, that’s who! The forty-something actress was mentioned, along with such greats as Heidi Klum and Angelina Jolie, apart from his usual Worst Dressed list, as those who he instead identifies as singularly well dressed. This comes as little surprise as Marcia always looks stunning in whatever she wears, whether she’s walking the read carpet in a couture gown or walking a dog in a pair of sweats.

Celebrities who got named as “Worst Dressed” include such notables as Paris Hilton, Britney Spears (I thought you had to be actually DRESSED to be considered?) and Lindsay Lohan. I think Marcia could teach those girls a thing or two. Or three!

There’s been a lot going on for the ‘Wives this week. So much, that I couldn’t pick which story to bring to you so I’m going to bring you a little bit of everything instead.

• Teri Hatcher has revealed to The Post Chronicle that, “I don’t think I’ll ever get married again. I totally believe in monogamy. I am not a dater.” Why the bold proclamation? “I need to be safe and trusting and do not believe in rotating men through the house. It would take a lot before I would want to bring a man into my daughter’s life.” Hatcher is concerned with providing a stable home for her nine year old daughter, Emmerson. She doesn’t believe that jumping from relationship to relationship would be good for her daughter. She would rather focus on her daughter than search for another husband. Wow! That’s a dedicated mom!
• In other Hatcher news: She and her daughter turned the tables on the paparazzi. While out and about with Emmerson yesterday in Los Angeles, she helped her daughter snap a picture of one of the photographers. I think that’s pretty adorable.
• Marcia Cross is starting to wonder what the heck she’s going to wear to the Golden Globes awards show on January 15. As you may well know, she’s pregnant with twins and due this spring. There aren’t a lot of fashion options open to her at this time. She says, “I’m going to the show if I can waddle out of the house. I don’t know what kind of tent they are going to put me in. I’m thinking black or navy. It’s not going to be a high-fashion year for me. And I’m thinking barefoot. I deserve it!” I think she’s totally right. I’m sure she’ll be gorgeous no matter what she puts on.
• Eva Longoria has been announced as the new face of Bebe Sports. This is the first major advertising campaign for Bebe Sport, a division of the Bebe ladies wear brand. Bebe CEO Greg Scott has said, “She is dedicated to fitness, has a great sense of style and we are looking forward to her valuable input into our Bebe Sport product.” Sounds like more exposure for Eva!
