Shopping for a “Desperate Housewife”

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Hey, everyone! If you’re reading this, you’re most likely already a fan of the show. If that’s the case…. pay attention, cause you’re gonna find some stuff to add to your wish list! For all the people who may be browsing here out of curiosity, I’m gonna tell you about some great stuff that any fan would love for a gift on those special occasions.

season4dvdcover.jpg First off…. obviously, we have the DVDs. Season 4 comes out on September 2nd and no fan is going to want to miss it- especially if that fan loved this season. Not only does it have every episode, there are plenty of cool features. They’ll go behind the scenes of the making of “Something’s Coming” from beginning to end, Chat with all the couples on the show, offer insight into the men of the town and, of course, there will be deleted scenes and bloopers. The set is going to set you back $59.99.

For the gamers among you, there are a couple of options here. First off, the “Dirty Laundry” board game. In the game, players roll the dice to collect character and secret cards. The winner is the one who can match up three characters with three secrets. At under $3, this looks like a steal to me. If you’re looking for something more hi-tech, there’s a computer game as well. This one is a bit like the Sims… you’ll get to interact with all your favorites, do some snooping and decorate, too. If you buy it off amazon, you can get it for $10.00! Not a bad deal… I may just have to snatch one up myself!

Any domestic divas out there? I’d like to draw you’re attention to this. It’s the Desperate Housewives cookbook. There are no-fail easy dishes (I need these…), quick ones, and more elegant dishes, too. There’s some to fit every character, which I think it kinda cool. This is gonna cost you about $11.00.

Finally… here’s something really cool. I love some of the fashions on the show and I’m sure I’m not alone. Imagine my surprise when I saw there’s actually an exact replica of one of the nighties worn on the show. It’s made for sizes 6-12 and costs $66.00. That is definitely a save up one.

Well, that’s about it. If you want even more merchendise, check out this post where you’ll learn about stuff that is available at the ABC store. Gotta start saving up for some of these goodies… See y’all next time with a recap. Take care!

Talk Show Round Up

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Hello, again! As promised, I’m back to give you a little recap of James Denton and Marcia Cross being interviewed on a couple of talk shows.

First up was James Denton. He appeared last night on Last Call with Carson Daly. Carson introduced him by saying he stars on Desperate Housewives and, in the process, is keeping the show from reaching dangerously high levels of estrogen. Ok, kinda lame, but it still got a laugh out of me. Surprisingly, Housewives wasn’t the first thing they talked about. They started off the conversation by talking about James’ band called “Band from TV”. It features Bachelor Bob Guiney, Bonnie Somerville, Hugh Laurie and Greg Grunberg and others. James said that Teri Hatcher recently joined the band as well. He credits her as the reason that the band was featured on the recent Idol Gives Back special and that Band from TV actually helps raise money for a variety of charities. A new DVD they are releasing through the website will also contribute to these causes He also talked about how they convinced him to sing a couple of songs himself, even though he usually plays guitar. According to James, he made a point of choosing songs he can mostly talk through. He added that, while the band doesn’t sound selfish, it really is because “we get to pretend we’re rock stars.” I thought that was really cool. They don’t seem to take it too seriously. Carson actually played a clip of Bonnie and Hugh singing “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. It didn’t sound half bad. Check out a picture of him performing with the band:

That wasn’t all they talked about, though. James also told a funny story about going to the Golden Globes one year. Apparently, a guy cornered him at the event, calling him “Lost”. Someone else with him said they don’t think it’s him, but a picture was taken of James anyway. Just in case he was actually Matthew Fox of the series Lost. They closed off the interview by playing a clip from this weekend’s Desperate Housewives and talking about Out and About with Allergies. It’s a free Zagat guide for people who have allergies that tells about the best places to go when you have them. It also tells people how to control allergies and things they should ask their doctor about. James is supporting it because he suffers from allergies himself. The free guide is available here. Now, we move on to Marcia…

marcia2.jpg

She appeared on ABC’s The View this morning. She even came onto the set pretending to read Barbara Walters’ new biography. This interview seemed a bit shorter to me, and the ladies almost seemed to talk over her in some parts. They started the interview off by talking about Marcia’s twin girls and showing a picture of them. I really liked her for this because she admitted it was hard to get pregnant at her age and said she wanted to make people aware that it really isn’t that easy. She says she even turned down magazine covers because she didn’t want to be out there promoting a misconception about fertility. On a slightly less serious note, she talks about suffering “mom guilt” when she can’t be with them and feeling like a true success now that she not only has the career, but a family as well.

Whoopie then asked her about the period between Melrose Place and Housewives. Marcia says it was a time when she was trying to figure herself out. She wasn’t getting roles that really interested her and wasn’t quite fulfilled personally, so she decided to take time out to get her psychology degree.

One of the cuter moments came when she was asked how she plays the uptight Bree, since she’s nothing like her in real life. Marcia responds that she has no idea how she manages it, it’s just some magic that happens when she gets those clothes on. She said she even starts straightening crooked pictures on the set and stuff like that. Now, that, I want to see!

To close things off, they talk about Marcia’s support of the skin cancer takes friends project and how important it is to protect your skin from the sun. She said her husband only started listening to her when he needed to get something frozen off his face during a doctor’s visit. She also talked about the misconceptions that darker skinned people don’t get the disease. The project has a website where people can sign themselves and a friend up for a free screening.

Well, that’s all for now. Look for another recap next week when Teri Hatcher also appears on The View. I’ll see y’all again on Monday with a recap of the latest episode. Have a great weekend!

New Goodies from the ABC.com store

bath toteSorry for the small posting delay.  Don’t you hate it when real life rears it’s ugly head?  And let’s not forget that I have a bun in the oven (have I neglected to mention that?) and so my lethargy is taking on drastic proportions.  At any rate, I was cruising the new “Desperate Housewives” page design over at ABC.com (check it out!) when I noticed they had an item from the “Desperate Housewives” online store highlighted in the sidebar.  It was a bath kit that was embroidered with a “Wisteria Lane” logo.  Which looks really cute, until you stop to wonder why there would be a bath kit with a street name on it.  I know, I know.  It’s a promotional item for the show, but I tried to picture Marcia Cross’ Bree with one of these kits and it just made me sorta giggly.

Gabrielle apronBut there are some very cool things in the store that you should check out if you’re a fan of the show.  For instance, if you’re looking for a Halloween costume, you can get this Gabrielle themed apron and with a few other well-appointed accessories, you can be transformed into a “Desperate Housewife”.  Clever?  There’s a few other “Housewife” themed garments available in the shop, just in case Gaby isn’t your cup of tea.  Check out some of Bree’s gloves, for instance.  They are absolutely adorable.

I know I’ve mentioned the store before, but that was ages ago and they’ve added a ton of other great stuff since then that you should definitely check out.

Madame Alexander’s “Desperate” dolls

Desperate Housewives dolls

The “Desperate Housewives” dolls by famed doll creator Madame Alexander have made their debut. Retailers are taking orders now and “the girls” will be in stores early this summer.

Regarding the dolls’ lack of resemblance to the actresses who portray the characters, Jane Abrahams the director of marketing for Madame Alexander says:

The “Desperate Housewives” dolls embody the qualities of the women of Wisteria Lane, though they are not meant to be replicas of the actresses. In fact, they are referred to as “non-dedicated sculpts.”

“It is the character and their great sense of fashion that our company wanted to bring to life.”

Well, that explains that. The dolls’ outfits were styled directly from outfits that were worn on the show, for that extra note of authenticity. These dolls are all about fashion. Want to learn more about each doll’s specific look? Read on below.

“Where can I find that…?”

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Beth Bowley SweaterHave you ever been watching “Desperate Housewives”, seen Susan or Bree or Gabby wearing something absolutely stunning that you just cannot take your eyes off of and you wonder, “Where can I get one JUST LIKE IT??” If you have, then you’re in luck, because there’s this site called Seenon.com that showcases where you can find some of the hottest goodies that show up on your favorite shows and movies, including “Desperate Housewives”. So if you want to know what brand of clothes that Eva Longoria likes the most or what kind of car Edie drives, you just have to check this site out. The site even breaks it down to which character used or wore it during a particular episode. Want to know what the hoodie that Danielle Van de Tramp wore in the “Nice She Ain’t” episode that aired back in October, you just select Danielle from the character list and “Nice She Ain’t” from the episode list. Voila! It’s this hoodie right here!

Just be careful because one could EASILY spend an entire morning looking through this site and doing some serious virtual window shopping. Not that I… er… have done that or anything.

Child’s Play?

Desperate Housewives: The Game“Desperate Housewives” is no longer just restricted to our tv sets. There’s a new review of the “Desperate Housewives: The Game” for the PC over at GameSpot.com. Even before I read the review, I saw the screenshots from the game and thought, “Wow, that looks just like ‘The Sims’.” Even the reviewer mentions the eerie similarities. The interactions are similar, as are some of the game’s goals and mini-games. The basic idea is your character is a new neighbor on Wisteria Lane and you have a secret past (of course!). You interact with the other ‘wives, but ultimately the story is about you. It sounds interesting, if a little silly. But the reviewer does mention that is part of the appeal. After all, “Desperate Housewives” itself is a little on the silly side, and that’s what makes it so delicious to watch. So if you ever played “The Sims” and loved it or if you’re in the mood for some guilty-pleasure-style fun on the PC, pick up a copy at your nearest electronics store. I have to admit, it does sound interesting.

Desperate DollsAlso coming to a store near you, “Desperate Housewives” dolls. Created by Madame Alexander, these Barbie-sized beauties will be featured in Fashion Doll Quarterly’s spring 2007 issue. Looking at the dolls, I can’t see where they truly resemble the characters. The Bree doll is the most recognizable simply because she’s the only Housewife with red hair. But think of the clothes. I think that’s where the market are with these pint-sized cuties. Another concern: who are these dolls for? Adult fans of the show who are also doll collectors? Or for small girls who shouldn’t even know what “Desperate Housewives” is yet? Interesting.
