Desperate Housewives

I’m sorry I didn’t post yesterday.  A weekend trip turned into a family emergency and we didn’t arrive home until yesterday evening.  It’s good to be back and scouring the headlines once again.  And you may have heard that the Primetime Emmy Awards were Sunday night.  The show might not have won, but the women looked fantastic.  As far as I can tell, Nicolette Sheridan wasn’t in attendance, but all the other women were and I found their dresses (save for Eva’s) all had a common theme.  They all looked very nice, as you can see below.  If you’d like to see each image larger, simply click on it.

I would say something like “let the hype begin!” but it’s been going on for weeks now! This is just yet another instance of publicity for “Desperate Housewives” and the new season starting September 30. At a recent press “shindig” for ABC’s fall lineup, Teri Hatcher was cornered by Hollywood.com (care of The New York Post) and asked to dish the dirt on the upcoming season. What followed was a brief but revealing interview where Hatcher divulged some news from the set. If you’d like to see it, I highly recommend clicking over to check it out. But in the meantime, here’s a taste of what she had to say:

HW: Nathan Fillion plays a gynecologist, so what was your first scene with him?

TH: It was a great scene. Often you’ll hear actors saying that the oddity of you might meet someone, “”Hi, nice to meet you”" and then the next thing you know you’re doing a kissing scene. Ours was, “”Hi, nice to meet you – now my feet are going to be on the stirrups and you need to pretend like you’re doing some sort of exam nobody wants to talk about.”" That’s pretty welcoming. “Hey, welcome to Desperate Housewives.” It was funny. Those were the kind of jokes that were going on.

HW: Were you wearing boxers underneath?

TH: I wore plenty to be a lady.

Intriguing, no?

Just when you were starting to think that maybe the women on “Desperate Housewives” might actually be getting along, rumors are flying that quite the opposite is true.  Apparently, cast members have been taking bets on when Eva Longoria’s marriage will fall apart.  This is, of course, according to a report to be published by the National Enquirer so take it with a grain of salt.

And the bets aren’t all, either.  According to the magazine,  the women are arguing about everything from scripts to photo shoots to trailers.  An insider on the set has revealed:

“The cat claws are out like never before, and the actresses’ inability to get along is causing headaches for producers, writers and crew members. And the one joke that’s keeping a smile on people’s faces is at Eva’s expense.”

This all sounds absolutely absurd to me and I hope that something is resolved soon.  Why is it that women can’t work together without the gossip swirling that they are all at each other’s throats?  How about everyone just settles down and makes a good show this season?  Is that possible?

Did you know that Teri Hatcher is in a movie?  She is, and it’s releasing this Friday.  It’s called “Resurrecting the Champ” and is about a reporter finding a former boxing champ and wanting to write a story about him.  There’s a great interview with her over on The Chicago Sun-Times website where she discusses both the movie and the show that has re-catapulted her to fame: “Desperate Housewives”.  “The funny and great thing is the success from the show gives you opportunities in features that you might not have had before,” she told the interviewer over the phone.  Unfortunately, she hasn’t had much time for movies since the shooting schedule for the show is so busy.  But she’s very excited to spread her acting wings and try out some new roles over the coming years.  I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of Teri Hatcher!

Seems Teri Hatcher is taking notes from her “Desperate Housewives” co-star Eva Longoria.  While before the wedding, all sources stated that Teri and boyfriend Stephen Kay were solid, the rumors started to turn at Eva’s wedding when she attended with only her daughter in tow.  And then, Tony Parker introduced Teri to (younger) NBA basketball player Baron Davis (he plays for the Golden State Warriors) and the two seemed to hit it off from the start. 

“Baron and Teri really hit it off,” says a friend of the TV beauty. They talked and danced all night and had a great time. They couldn’t seem to get enough of each other!” Still, adds the source, when it came time to say goodbye after the Parisian wedding party ended, “neither Teri nor Baron knew what would happen when they returned to the States!”

And what of her relationship with Stephen Kay, which for so long seemed to be moving towards marriage as the two were practically joined at the hip?

As for Teri’s relationship with Stephen, another friend of the star says, “I think she hasn’t had her heart in it for a while.  She definitely seemed open to meeting someone new who made her heart beat faster.”

So perhaps Stephen was a good guy but a little boring for Ms. Hatcher.  And meanwhile, Teri and Baron are getting to know each other a lot better. The pair have been spotted out together as recently as July 24 and everyone seems to be saying they’re pretty hot for one another.   That’s the story and I’m sticking to it!

So should Teri have split off from the other guests to come around the front of the church and wave and greet the fans and photographers?  A lot of people are saying she shouldn’t have this morning.  But it wasn’t just about getting out in front of the cameras, apparently her dress which was designed by Badgley Mischka and looked an awful lot like the bridesmaids dresses that Eva had had designed.  Apparently, Teri is the odd one out on the set as well. The other women often socialize together between scenes and at each others’ homes while Teri keeps to herself and often is the source of awkwardness between the women on the set.  So, do I buy this?  Maybe, maybe not.  I don’t know if Eva or anyone else directly involved in the wedding actually cared whether or not Teri got her picture taken or what her dress looked like.  But it was a little on the tasteless side, though surely not newsworthy (she says as she writes an entire blog post about it).  

No, there isn’t any photos of Eva in her wedding dress yet.  Not that I can find, that is.  The pair were married twice this last weekend.  First, there was the civil ceremony at a town hall in Paris on Friday.  Then, we had the giant, star-studded affair that took place on Saturday.  The festivities were incredibly locked down with the paparazzi and fans kept at a great distance from the church and the loving couple themselves.  What few pictures I have seen are of the wedding guests and perhaps one or two of Eva and Tony’s limo.  I can barely contain my excitement, I don’t know about you.

All reports are that the wedding went off as planned and that it was a stunningly lavish affair.  OK! magazine has exclusive rights to the photos of the couple and the festivities and we should be getting a look at those sometime later this week.  And maybe we’ll get some details as well.  I can’t blame them for putting their most special day under lock and key; I’d probably be tempted to do the same.  But shoot, throw us a bone!  Let us at least see a picture of her in her dress!  At any rate, best wishes to the happy couple, wherever they are!

Last night was the 4th Annual Glamour Women of the Year awards.  I bet you didn’t know that. I bet you also didn’t know that Teri Hatcher won an award there.  Oh yes!  But not for her portrayal of Susan Meyer on “Desperate Housewives”.  She got the Writer of the Year award for her book, “Burnt Toast”.  The British awards featured mostly British recipients, which made Teri winning the award all the more significant.  I bet I can guess who will get Writer of the Year at next year’s awards, however.  Can anyone say J.K. Rowling?  Teri’s just lucky that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” comes out this year instead of last year.

All joking aside, congratulations to her.  I’ve heard some good things about her book (which I will admit I haven’t had a chance to read) and it’s got to be awesome to be recognized for her talent and hard work.  Way to go, Teri!

Teri Hatcher thought she had simply misplaced her ATM card. So when she called up the bank to cancel the card and see about getting issued another, she was told that someone had been using the heck out of it. Talk about a shock!

“I called to cancel it and was actually stolen… I don’t use it much, so they had rung up $12,000. They did 90 different transactions and I know that because for every single fraud thing you have to sign out a whole slip that says, ‘No, I wasn’t at Joe’s Diner, spending $20 on chilli.’ There were a lot of trips to Albertsons in the Valley, Vons, Longs Drugs, lots of little purchases. I think that’s probably how they get away with it. It dawned on me as I was doing this that in 90 times of them giving the card, nobody ever went, ‘Teri Hatcher…’ I was really kinda freaked out that that could happen.”

I can see how that would happen with an ATM card, since no one really looks at those for signatures or even if you’re the name on the card. A debit card would have been another story (and probably why I vastly prefer my check card to my ATM card). Still, this is a huge bummer for Teri and I imagine has been quite a headache to deal with.

For those of you wondering if wedding bells are in Mike and Susan’s future, wonder no longer! It’s a go! But don’t expect a big, fancy church wedding with an extravagant dress. Susan and Mike chose to go the understated route with a small, simple outdoors wedding. Though Teri was a touch disappointed when she found out she wouldn’t be wearing a fantastic dress. She wanted an elaborate wedding for Susan, but knew that it wouldn’t have made much sense. Still, I think the dress she chose was fabulous in and of itself. And a sweet, outdoor ceremony fits Mike and Susan like a glove. But has all this wedding fever on “Desperate Housewives” made Teri Hatcher want a wedding of her own with boyfriend Stephen Kay? Teri plays coy with the interviewer before changing the subject. Having said before that she would not like to get married again, I am doubtful she would change her mind. But stranger things have happened.

What’s ahead for these star-crossed lovers? Mike Delfino will be getting a troubled younger brother at the start of the next season and there are rumors of a pregnancy for Susan. Teri, however, would like to concentrate a little on Susan and Mike’s sex life. She points out that Eva and Nicolette and Marcia have all had fabulous sex scenes and that’s something Susan and Mike haven’t had yet. (On screen, at least) We’ll see, but this seems a fitting end to the third season of “Desperate Housewives”. With three weddings, it’s been a wedding-centric season to be sure!

Felicity Huffman threw co-star and pal Eva Longoria a bridal shower at her Los Angeles home this past Sunday, inviting a huge amount of friends and family, including her other “Desperate Housewives” costars, Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Brenda Strong and Nicolette Sheridan. All accounts show that the party was quite a success. At one point, Eva presided as judge over a competition where unmarried guests made wedding gowns out of toilet paper. Teri Hatcher won the grand prize, a tissue tiara. The theme was “Home”, obviously, as little pink houses served as centerpieces for the tables and Felicity requested that guests bring gifts for each room of their new home together. Felicity joked that she didn’t need to give a gift since she was the one throwing the shower. Uh, don’t think it works that way, Felicity.

It’s a slow news day in “Desperate Housewives” land. We’re all gearing up and getting excited for the NEW episode on Sunday. And, can I say, it’s about time? Can I get an “Amen!”? Anyhow, here are some great pictures of some of our favorite “Housewives” from this week. The other ‘Wives haven’t been out much in the last week or so, unfortunately. I’m still waiting for a good look at Marcia’s new twins! Each time I’ve seen images of her out and about lately she looks fantastic.

Check out this picture of Teri Hatcher, circa October of 2006 at the 2006 World Women’s Awards, on the red carpet with Claudia Schiffer. Pretty emaciated, right? We’ve all heard the tabloid stories about super-skinny celebrities and Teri Hatcher has often been included in with that group. Many speculations have been made regarding eating disorders and the like. But mostly everyone has just hoped the girl would go find a cheeseburger somewhere and make herself happy again. And? It looks like she has.

Just look how happy she looks with her beau, Stephen Kay, at the recent 6th Annual Comedy for a Cure event. And she looks healthy too. The girl looks downright beautiful. So good for her.

Also, FWIW, I first saw these pics and heard about her new healthier look on Mamapop, and if you aren’t reading that site then you’re totally missing out.

Teri Hatcher isn’t above golfing for charity. She and some other “Desperate Housewives” cast and crewmembers came out on Sunday to play some golf and raise money for the Casa Pacifica children’s charity. Turns out, the only castmember with any decent amount of golf experience is Dougray Scott who grew up in Scotland (the birthplace of golf) and has been playing since he was six. The rest pretty much stank up the joint. But at least they raised boucoup bucks in the process. Each of the tournament players donated anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars to join in the fun. And it sounds like they did have a lot of fun.

Ricardo Antonio Chavira (Carlos) played golf for the first time only two days before the tournament. Still, he enjoyed some friendly competition with John Slattery, who plays his romantic rival on the show. As far as the game, Chavira insisted, “I’m going to kick his (butt).” Just a few hours into the tournament, though, Chavira had hit two houses near the course.
