D-Day is Near…
Good morning everyone! As promised, I want to bring you an update on the actor’s strike situation. According to reports, there have been no deals made and time is running out for SAG and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to come to an agreement that would save the industry from another work stoppage. Not only that, reports also say that the talks are not exactly the most friendly discussions. Nervous executives are considering possibly delaying the season if a strike happens and are looking for ways to fill air time as we speak. Some shows, wanting to get back to work after the long break, haven’t stopped production for the summer and will have several episodes ready before the June 30th deadline.
As with the writers, actors and producers are arguing over the internet and payments from streaming and downloading shows online. DVD payments are also at issue. There are a couple of pluses that weren’t around during the time of the writer walk out, though. The actors have two unions and one has already reached a deal that is likely to be ratified by the group soon. This may just inspire SAG to take a similar deal at the last minute. Two… the SAG talks are coming off a long writer’s strike that cost the industry a lot of money and hurt the ratings. Members of SAG might not be so eager to vote for a strike right now.
As you can see, it’s not an ideal situation. Still, I have faith that people are going to look at the big picture and come together for the sake of their business. I’ll be here to keep you updated as the latest news regarding the talks becomes available.
In the meantime… let’s take a look back, shall we? Here’s a rare promo I found on YouTube for the show’s first season:
I think this is one of the best promos I have seen for any show. It’s different and does a great job of introducing us to the show and the characters. Congrats to whoever created this one on a job well done. Well, I better be going now… see you all next time!
