Maybe it wasn’t a fluke after all
by

I may have spoke too soon last week when I said the ratings recovery “Desperate Housewives” enjoyed last Sunday proved the low Easter ratings were a fluke. But again this past Sunday, “Desperate Housewives” suffered a ratings low. And not just any ratings low, but an ever worse ratings low than the record set on Easter. The show garnered 15.6 million viewers on Sunday, though only one-tenth lower than the ratings on Easter. Still, it can’t be setting a happy precedent for a show that once enjoyed phenomenal ratings week after week. The good news is, it was still one of the higher rated shows on Sunday night. I can’t help but wonder if “The Sopranos” and “Planet Earth” are stealing a lot of the regular viewers. And once upon a time, ABC was the channel to watch on Sundays, starting with “AFV” (my son’s favorite show in the whole wide world), then onto “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and then “Desperate Housewives” and rounding up with “Grey’s Anatomy.” “Extreme Makeover” isn’t getting the viewers now that it once was and “Grey’s” has vacated the Sunday night slot. And ABC is no longer the channel to watch on Sundays. Sad, but true. But that’s merely my own speculation. I hope the ratings bounce back soon. The show has been good, a lot better than it was last year.
