Musings on “City on Fire”….

by Jamie Beckett

Good morning, everyone! So I promised my thoughts on Sunday’s episode… here they are. First off- I did overall like the episode. There were plenty of great parts to it. Bree, for example, was great this week with her interactions with that reporter and her desperate attempts to present a perfect image. I also loved how they’re handling Gabby this year. She’s changed, yes- but all those core character traits are still beneath the surface, ready to come out now and then. It was also really nice to see Julie again and for the writers to show the affect Susan’s crazy (and messed up) love life has had on her daughter. I also loved Lynette going back to help out Anne, no matter how bad she may have wanted to leave her. It’s nice to see the tough, protective side of her come out more, rather than her usual scheming self.

Despite all this, I still couldn’t find myself loving this one. I just didn’t get the “big event episode” vibe from it, despite all the hype beforehand. The tornado episode and the hostage episode both left me on the edge of my seat and really got me involved. This one? Not so much. I think a big reason for my disappointment is the “I’m not done with you yet” line Dave said to Mike. All I could think was please don’t let it be Mike Dave is after. I mean really… how many mysteries does this guy have to be involved in? And how many psychos can really be out to get one person? It leaves me feeling like someone either really loves the Mike character and wants him to be the focus, or someone really hates James and wants to see him getting beat up and run over all the time. Let’s hope that line was just about throwing us off and not an indication of Dave’s true intentions.

Seriously, writers… Just say no to Mike. I know you can do it! So, everyone… what do you think? Are we being misled? Does someone behind the scenes love Mike a little too much? Share your thoughts with me and let’s get a conversation going.

I am not really convinced that it is Mike that Dave wants to hurt, I think there is more to this mystery. Also now that Jackson has lived thru the fire is Dave going to try and kill him too because he saw him in the storage room. Lots of things still to work out, but I don’t think they are going to kill off Mike. He is still a big part of the show even though he is not married to Susan anymore. Also I hope Jackson returns, I love his character, he is great with Susan.

  2. Linda Says:

I am almost positive it is Mike who Dave is after. I mean, we all know Mike went to prison for manslaughter and we also know Dave’s brother died in prison at the hands of another inmate. The only other men I can think that were in prison are Paul Young and Orson Hodge. Paul has the capability, but he hasn’t really been in the show much the past couple seasons…

  3. Jamie Beckett Says:

Susie and Linda- thanks for your comments. You both bring up great arguments for your sides of the issue. While I think it’s possible that Linda’s theory is right, I’m hoping there’s a twist yet to come as Susie suggested. I guess we’ll see!

  4. Melony Says:

Yea i think im going to have to agree with Linda, i def think its Mike. I still think they can shock us with the reason though
