Kyle, Rob, Lori and others at the Monte Carlo TV Festival

Good morning, again!! So, y’all know that awards season is upon us, right? All facets of the entertainment industry are about to start gathering to heap praise and trophies out to their co-workers. In fact, the CMT awards, which honors country music, is about to take place pretty soon and we just saw the ACM awards not long ago. One of these events is the annual Monte Carlo TV Festival (you might remember me posting some pictures of Dana Delany there last year).

The festival just wrapped up and honors all the best in Television from around the world. This time? Desperate Housewives came home a winner! They won the award for top comedy series. Not too bad, huh? Let’s hope this keeps up at the other ceremonies taking place this year. Other US show winners included, House and The Bold and the Beautiful. Coincidently, a French show called Desperate Parents also took home a production award and a couple acting prizes. I tried searching for it and didn’t come up with much. Has anyone heard of this show? Is it a French version of Housewives?

The festival also featured appearances by many US stars. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Matthew Fox were there as well Housewives’ Kyle McLachlan. There’s no mention if any of the other stars were on hand, and I haven’t found any photos of them at the event except for Kyle. Funny enough, he was in a group pick along with Rob Estes and Lori Loughlin of 90210. Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see ya next time!

Making the Switch

by

Hello, everyone!! Well, I mentioned this before but I figured this may be a good time to remind y’all that TV signals are going out today (6/12). If you don’t have a digital cable/satellite service subscription or a convertor box, you are about to be out of luck. Not to worry, though- there are plenty of stores that sell these boxes that will allow your TV to receive the new digital signals. Radio Shack is one of those.

So why are they doing this? Over the past few years, the government has been putting this in motion to free up the old analog TV signals for other purposes. Police and other important emergency communications. The switch was supposed to happen all the way back in February, but it was delayed to allow a little more time to prepare. Surprisingly, according to a yahoo news article, those of us from the younger generation are less prepared than older viewers. The commerce secretary is saying it’s likely because the younger generation doesn’t care much about TV because they’re getting a lot of their shows on the internet or by other means. Makes sense, I guess. So now I’m curious…. how many of you out there are already prepared for this switch? When did you prepare? If not, is it because you watch most of your shows online or is there another reason? Comment and let me know! I guess that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all again on Monday. Have a great weekend and good luck if you’re still getting ready for the switch. I leave you with a quick youtube video about getting ready for the switch thanks to IowaPublicTelevision:

Classic Desperation

by

Hey, guys… I thought that I would take a minute to talk about one of the best moments on the series (in my humble opinion anyway…) It happened a couple season ago, when Kayla and her crazy mom were around. Nora, angry about the Scavos trying for custody of Kayla, confronts Lynette at the grocery store. Unfortunately for Nora, another crazy woman is in the store and angry at her husband (the manager) for having an affair. She holds the whole place hostage and ends up shooting Nora when it comes out that Nora had slept with Tom in the past. Check it out, thanks to Ayelcute:

I think this is one of Felicity’s better acting moments on the show. I loved her little freak out over Caroline even hinting that she wanted Nora to die and going off on her for holding everyone else hostage just because her own husband is a cheating creep. You can just see the anger and pain on Lynette’s face and I love the trouble it ended up creating later in the Scavo house (you know Kayle blames Lynette for this in some way).

While Nora was kind of annoying and Kayla was just downright creepy, I still like them having been on the show for this moment alone. As an added bonus? This episode also includes the chainsaw fight with the Solises and Bree’s ‘hostage party’. The perfect episode, all around. What do you all think? Share your comments below. See y’all next time!!

A New Deal

David White (right), one of the main negotiators behind the new actor's deal.

Hey, everyone!! Remember when I told y’all about the actor’s negotiations and how a deal had been reached? Well, there are other steps to go through after the contract talks end. Namely, the members have to vote on it. They did recently and the response was overwhelming. Over 70% of the SAG membership have voted to accept the new deal and officially ratify the contract. This finally brings an end to over a year of negotiations and some in-fighting that lead SAG and AFTRA to negotiate contracts separately for pretty much the first time.

SAG President Rosenberg has sort of admitted defeat, but still doesn’t think his tactics were wrong. In fact, he is planning to run for another term. From a quote in one of the stories about it, I think he may have some stiff competition to look forward to come election day. I’m just glad the whole thing is finally resolved. As for the deal they agreed to…. it gives actors a 3% raise the first year and an additional 3.5% in the second year as well as some new media (internet) money. Talks are already getting going to figure out how to enforce this and allowing actors to see just how much is being generated. The new deal expires in June of 2011. So what do you all think? Do you like the deal? Do you think actors should have held out for more? Comment and let me know. Take care and I’ll see y’all again tomorrow.

Interview with the Carvers

by

max-and-charlie

Hey, everyone! I’m late, but I come bearing interviews. Well, ok, one interview if you wanna get technical on me! It’s with Max and Charlie Carver, the boys who played the Scavo Twins all grown up. It was published by the papermag website yesterday and it’s a really good read!

They have nothing but great things to say about working on the show and working with their on-screen parents, Felicity Huffman and Doug Savant. They do, however, have an embarrassing story from the set about being an inexperienced actor that is pretty amusing. They also talk a bit about being twins and what they did in High School.

I was surprised by a couple things in the interview. I had no idea they were in any way artistic and that they loved art so much. I thought that was cool. I was also surprised by the way they stated some of their answers. They sounded, to me anyway, to be so much older than their years. It was pretty cool to see. Let’s hope that maturity is helping them deal with their new stardom more easily. Especially since this was their very first professional acting job. Pretty good start to their careers, huh? If you want to read the full interview for yourself and see what embarrassing thing happened on the set (and during high school), head on over here. Well, I guess that’s about it for now. See y’all tomorrow with more Desperate Housewives talk. Til then take care!

Busy Housewives…

by

So, have you been wondering what some of the Housewives cast has been up to since filming and the end-of-season promotion ended? I did some searching and found a couple articles to share with you.

eva-and-tony1The first one comes from Jakeldaily and gives us a little bit of an update on what Eva Longoria has been up to lately. Basically? A whole lot of traveling! According to the website, she’s been jetting all over the place the past two weeks. This includes a stop at Cannes and a little vacation in the French Riviera. If you wanna read a little more and see the pictures, head on over here.

danaEva’s not the only one using up her frequent flier miles. Dana Delany was recently in Dublin to attend a 20K race for charity. According to the article, a bunch of stars from Ireland were also there to cheer everyone on. The race has so many competitors in it, some people took hours just to get past the start line. Crazy, huh? There was also some insane heat to deal with for the participants. Want some more details about the race and who was there? Head on over to the site and read all about it! Speaking of Dana…. I’ve got some youtube interviews I wanna share soon. Just gotta get it all loaded right (dial up is fun, huh?)

Well, that’s about it for now. I’ve got plenty more in store this week, though, so stick around! For now, have a good one and I’ll see y’all next time.

TV Alert

by

Hey, everyone!! Just a little update real quick today on where you can see some Housewives actors on TV over the next week or two.

At least one of James Denton’s appearances on Reba is airing on two channels. Lifetime (who also airs Housewives repeats) will have one on June 8th at 4 PM eastern time. ION has one on June 9th at 7L30 PM.

Teri Hatcher can be seen in something kinda old and something pretty new. Her guest appearance in Quantum Leap is scheduled for June 4 at 4 PM on ION (ooh… I smell a competition. Who will you choose to watch?). On June 9th at 4 PM, VHI is going to be playing a repeat of The Fabulous Life Of… featuring her.

Tune into E! on June 12th at 11 AM to catch Eva Longoria’s True Hollywood Story. It debuted not long ago, but I didn’t get to catch it so I have no idea how good or bad it is. THS tends to be hit or miss anymore, doesn’t it?

Finally Marcia Cross is on TV as well. On June 5th at 4:30 PM you can catch her in a repeat of the King of Queens (TBS). She is also supposed to be in the movie Bad Influence, airing on
MOMAXe at 9:20 AM on the 12th. So there ya have it! Where you can see the actors on TV. Catch y’all a little later with more. In the meantime, enjoy this little promo for the new Melrose Place. It features Doug Savant’s wife, Laura Leighton:

Ratings Are In!

by

eva-and-tony

Hey, everyone!! So another season is behind us. Still, there’s one more order of business to discuss and it’s the one all network executives wanna know first: how were the ratings? This season, the show actually did really well! After having a few low weeks during the year, the show ended averaging over 15 million viewers for the season.

This puts Desperate Housewives near the top of the heap! While the show ended up in 9th place among all TV shows, they did beat all the other scripted series in the dream 18-49 demographic. Not too bad, huh? Looks like the jump really did help the series this year! I may not agree with the show getting nine seasons (I think most really long running shows could’ve stood to lose a season or two- Buffy and Roseanne anyone?), but I can see why it is after reading the ratings. Can’t wait to see what happens when the show comes back in the Fall. Among the shows that beat them were American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, NCIS and The Mentalist.

So, let’s dish- what did you think of this season? Over-hyped? Under-appreciated? Be sure to comment and tell me all about it! I love reading everyone’s thoughts. Speaking of, here are a couple more to ponder for season 6: what are you most looking forward to when the show returns? Is there anything they showed/hinted at you’re dreading seeing play out? I wanna know about that too! Well, that’s about it for now. Take care and I’ll see y’all next time!

Nomination Time…

by

emmysDon’t you just love this time of year? Good weather, vacations…. and awards nominations are right around the corner. I admit that the awards season has not been very kind to Desperate Housewives in recent years. Especially to the leading ladies. Still I have a feeling this year may turn out to be better. The show’s ratings have been doing great and the big time jump has generated a lot of buzz (not to mention praise) ever since the premiere. Personally, I think the show has deserved almost every good thing said about it in Season 5. Obviously, there were some missteps along the way, but still. How can you not love Gabby as a frumpy mom? Bree as a famous business woman? Lynette as a…. well, ok! Not everything has to change.

So why am I musing about this now? Because the nominations are about to begin! The Emmy Awards nominations will be announced on July 16th. Of course, I’ll be there to fill you in on who got what nods in case you missed it. As for the Emmys themselves, they’re gonna be having a little jump of their own. The show was supposed to take place on September 20th. The problem? Football is going to be playing most of the day and there’s likely to be a primetime invasion, so the show has now been moved up to the 13th and will air on CBS. So who do you think should get a nomination? Be sure to comment with your thoughts or predictions and let me know.

Interview with a Beauty Queen

by

mariaHey, guys!! If you’ve been reading my blog on 24, you know that I had a last minute family thing which kept me from posting this afternoon. To make up for it, I have this. It’s an interview with Maria Conchita Alonso. I know y’all remember her! She played Gabby’s mom a little while back on the show. Here’s a little rundown and some comments on the interview:

She’s co-starring in the new Lifetime movie Maneater that premiered the other day (keep your eyes open. Lifetime loves to milk these things…). She plays the mother of Clarissa (Sarah Chalke from Roseanne and Scrubs) who’s like a Paris Hilton without the criminal record who won’t even admit her true age. Alonso’s character steps in (along with Clarissa’s father) to try and help her find a good man since Clarissa is freaking a little about being in her 30’s and with no ring on her finger. There’s another Housewives connection to this movie, by the way. Marla Sokoloff plays one of Clarissa’s good friends, who is also in on the hunt for a guy. You might remember her as the the nanny Lynette sent packing after Tom accidently saw a little too much of her.

It was a really nice interview that touched on her past as a beauty queen, her thoughts on roles for Hispanic women in Hollywood and her thoughts on the President’s meeting with a certain leader she’s not too fond of. Enjoy and let me know what you think of the interview as well! See ya later.

Gone in the Night

by

Hey, everyone! So, I was spending the weekend watching Lifetime movies (hey, they’re good campy fun) as I do a lot and one came on today that featured a very familiar face: Dixie Carter. You might remember she played Orson’s crazy mother who ends up completely mute and incapacitated after some sneaky plotting to get him back with his ex and get a grandchild from her. She’s, obviously, famous for her part on Designing Women, but what I’m talking about is the movie ‘Gone in the Night’.

It’s the true story of Cynthia and David Dowaliby, a couple who end up being wrongfully accused of the murder of Cynthia’s daughter (and his stepdaughter) Jaclyn. The movie also starts Shannen Dougherty and Kevin Dillon as Cynthis and David. Dixie plays David’s mother in the film, who lends support and financial assistance while they fight to clear their names. The case, by the way, has never actually been solved. Dixie has a pretty nice sized part in the movie and she does a great job with it. I don’t really remember her other roles, so it was nice to watch her in something where she’s not a complete psycho. If you haven’t seen it, keep checking your lifetime and lifetime movie network listings for it.

So, who has seen this movie? Did you like Dixie in it? Is there another role (besides the show I mentioned) that you really liked her in? If so, be sure to share! Take care and see y’all next time. Meanwhile, here’s a clip of her guesting on Christy thanks to margaretmirren1

TV Alerts…

Hey, everyone! I realized I never got around to getting my favorite quotes up from the finale!! I’ll fix that one tonight when I get home from work. For now? I wanna update you on where you can see some of your favorite Housewives actors on TV. Let’s start with Doug Savant….

He’s being featured in a guest star role in a repeat of NCIS. That is airing on USA network at 1 PM on May 31 as well as 5 PM on the 3rd. His lifetime movie, What Color is Love is also airing soon. Check it out on Lifetime Movie Network on June 3rd. It’ll be on at 12 AM and again at 12 PM. Finally, there is Bonnie and Clyde the True Story. That will be on FMC at 12:30 PM on June 3rd.

Marcia Cross has a couple of movies airing over the next week or so. She’s in Bad Influence, which will be on MoMaXe and Cinemax. MoMaxe will play it on the 4th at 1:35 PM and Cinemax will be showing it at 1 PM on May 30th. On the 31st, you can catch her in the movie Living In Fear on Lifetime at 12 PM.

Her onscreen husband, Kyle MacLachlan is also on TV a bit over the next couple of weeks. One of the movies he was in is The Doors. You can catch that on MoMaxe as well as HBOSGe and HBOe. I’ll list the

Life Lessons from Season 5

by

Hey, everyone! If you read my 24 blog, you know I post about valuable lessons each episode of the show has taught me. I thought I’d apply that concept to this season of Desperate Housewives. Enjoy and feel free to add your own!

Susan and Mike will never end up working out in the end because they can’t deal with bad situations together (car accident, anyone?)

It’s ok to basically agree to sell your family’s only source of income and plan for a year-long road trip without talking to anyone in your family about it. Likewise, it’s totally cool to wipe out your family’s savings to pay off the housewife messing with your underage son without telling anyone, either.

Fake marriage is hard. And also illegal, but as long as the alimony payments keep coming, go for it! Who cares that you have a kid to think about if you get busted?

When escaping your psycho husband who has just tried choking you, don’t run to a neighbor’s house to call for help. Instead, drive away while paying attention to your cell phone.

Your wife wants to divorce you because you’ve turned into a whining klepto who can’t handle her having a career? Don’t stress! Just blackmail her into staying married to you.

Making your 4-year-old (who rapidly ages to 6 later on) child chase after your car is a great form of exercise for her.

It’s not at all sexist to teach a little boy that hitting a girl twice his size that’s been bullying him is wrong after being all ready to teach him some fighting skills when you thought it was a boy doing the bullying.

Canada is a horrible place you must avoid getting deported to at all costs.

No revenge plot is complete unless it involves some type of camping trip.

Always watch out for nice older ladies who offer to take you and your whole family on a trip to Europe. They end up turning creepy and trying to run your children’s lives.

by the way… I remember talking about this, but I don’t think I ever found it to post before. So… I give you the “oprah is the new neighbor’ feature. It was posted by xmagicdustx and I believe it was on the season 2 DVD. I’ll get back to ya on that. I highly recommend getting them all anyway. Nothing like having the show on demand right?
